JOHN IRWIN KNIPE (JACK) 1922 2012 On April 23, 2012 John Irwin Knipe passed away. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Doreen, son Derek (Cathie), grandson Christopher, daughter Patricia (Don), and his brother William. Also left to mourn are his nephew Edward (Inis) and grand niece Christine (Trevor). He was predeceased by his mother and father, John and Lily. Dad was born and lived most of his life in Winnipeg but spent his very early years in Ireland and on a farm in British Columbia. After finishing school, Dad joined the Royal Canadian Navy serving Canada during the Second World War. His love of water and boating began at this time. After the war, with his father and younger brother, he bought, cleared the land and renovated a cabin on Longbow Lake in North Western Ontario. Bolder Shore was his pride and joy. Dad met and married Mom in 1947, sharing their lives for nearly 65 years. In 1952 they bought the family home where he lived until his passing. Dad was happiest at home. He worked around the house and yard with both drive and determination. Although he lost much of his eye sight in 1999, he continued to do things his way, from maintaining the house to caring for the yard, even climbing up a ladder to clean the eaves every spring and fall. Dad was a railway man, an Engineer with the Canadian Pacific Railway until his retirement in 1984. He was not much for travelling, but he appreciated all means of transportation from cars and boats to ships and trains. His soft spot was reserved for animals, especially his faithful dog Bailey. With this in mind and if you desire, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society in lieu of flowers. Our memories span the years we shared, preserving ties that bind, They build a special bridge of love and bring us peace of mind. Emily Matthews In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family memorial will be held. We miss you Dad. Funeral Home and Crematorium 774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca
