CAROL ANNE CHERNIUK August 2, 1940 - April 30, 2012 Peacefully, at home with her faithful friend Mickey by her side, Carol passed from this life. She will always be loved and sadly missed by her son, Terry and daughter-in-law, Brenda and the light of her life, her beloved grandson, Evan; niece, Sherri-Lynn; and of course her life-long friend, Florence as well as many friends and acquaintances. Carol was born in St. James in 1940 and spent her whole life in the house that her father built on Ferry Road. She attended Britannia School and St. James Collegiate, where she graduated in the 1950s. She was a Blue Bomberette in the 1950s during that historic era in the Bombers history and later taught baton at Airways Community Club. She was a willing volunteer there, calling bingo, working the canteen or whatever else needed to be done. She always loved gardening, spending countless hours outdoors tending to her flowers and vegetables. Her working life included many years in the office at Manco Dairy and Poultry in St. James, then moving to the Assiniboine Clinic at the radiology desk, where she was medically retired after her health deteriorated. Her love of animals always shone through as well, feeding all the strays in the neighbourhood and annually making donations to the shelters of the city. Cremation has taken place, following her wishes, and a graveside service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5 at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, it was her wish that a donation be made instead to one of the rescue shelters (Winnipeg Pet Rescue or D'Arcy's A.R.C.) or the Winnipeg Humane Society in her honour. I love you Mom, we'll see you soon. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.mb.ca 885-9715

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I was so sorry to hear of Carol's passing, almost a year later when I wrote a memoriam for my darling brother Tommy. I feel so sorry for her beloved son who has now lost both of his parents. That is just too sad. How devasted he must have felt when his mom got sick. Both of his parents loved and cared for him so much. - Posted by: marianne humphreys(nee cherniuk) (ex sister in law) on: Mar 11, 2013

  • Carol was a delivery customer of mine and her and I grew very close together. I loved her like family and she will be missed. I am proud to say that she was a dear friend and her kind heart and sense of humor always brightened my day. She was always very proud of her family and informed me about Evans soccer all the time. I wish her family all the best even though they don't know about me. Carol was a very big part of my life. I love you Carol, rest in paradise my doll. - Posted by: Jordyne eskow (Friends through work) on: May 16, 2012
