MICHAEL JAREMKO October 9, 1923 - April 25, 2012 Michael Jaremko went out peacefully at age 88. He arrived in Calgary early in the Alberta growth launched by the 1947 Leduc oil discovery, after returning from service as a navy signalman stationed in Bermuda during the Second World War and starting a family in his native Winnipeg. As owner-manager of Color Print Displays, a silk-screen shop born in the East Village then grown in the Belt Line, he mass-produced unsigned masterpieces of commercial art on cardboard, cloth, plastic and metal that livened up spots from downtown store aisles to remote well sites and the sides of roving oilfield hardware. He performed community volunteer roles with the Calgary Junior Chamber of Commerce and was a fixture of the downtown Y.M.C.A. handball courts and health club. As a lifelong autodidact of public affairs and history, he stirred alertness, skepticism and respect for learning into the work ethic that he instilled into his descendants. A patriarch is gone but his spirit lives on in his survivors: widow Margaret (Bartha), sisters Ann and Vicky, sons Gordon and Andrew, grandchildren Jacob, Rebecca, Sara and Deborah, and great-grandchildren Helaina, Andromeda, Myrina, Desmond, Julia and Ben. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial brunch on June 10. For information, e-mail gjaremko@gmail.com. All concerned thank Carewest Garrison Green and the Rocky View and Foothills hospitals for providing an exit that was as dignified and comfortable as circumstances allowed.
