Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD EDWARD SOMERS November 25, 1950 - May 10, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear father, grandfather and husband Donald Edward Somers. During the early hours of the morning on Thursday, May 10, 2012, Don was called home to be with the Lord, at the age of 61. After battling a neurological illness for a few short years, we take comfort in knowing that he is now in a place free of that struggle. Don leaves to cherish his beautiful memory, the love of his life Virginia Somers; mother-in-law Doris Moneyas; sons Jason (Arvelle), Patrick (Brittany), Steven (Amanda), Davis and Frodo; daughters Stacey (Pierre), Melvina and Trisha; his grandchildren Donovan, Kristen, Alanis, Chad, Blaze, Lexie, Jaxson, Sean and Emily; as well as one great-grandchild Demerick Somers. He also leaves his sisters Carolyn MacDonald and AnnMarie Parks. Don was predeceased by his parents Cathleen Somers and Guy Murphy; brother George Somers; daughter Kathleen Somers; father-in-law Patrick Moneyas; brothers-in-law Herman Moneyas, Angus MacDonald, Randle Bird Sr., and Lynn Clark; and sister-in-law Anna Clark. Don moved to Winnipeg from New Brunswick in the 1970s and stayed here until his death. Don is fondly remembered for his generous nature, big smiles and huge loving heart. He was known for his carefree attitude and his fun, silly sense of humour. He was a wonderfully unique man who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He loved taking his family on road trips and did that as often as he could. He was such an active man - riding bikes, running around and play wrestling with his kids. Don was very compassionate and helped everyone he knew. Children were his biggest source of his smile. Please join us in celebrating Don's life on Wednesday, May 16 at Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler at Henderson Hwy. A viewing will be held at 12:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. and a light reception, Norman Meade officiating.

We have fond memories of Don as a young man growing up in New Brunswick. Whenever we came to visit he was full of mischief and always showed us the wonders of living along the river. He took great delight in scaring us girls on the suspension bridge in front of his mother's home. As an adult Don visited his Aunt Betty at the cottage when he could and frequently phoned to stay in touch with everyone in Halifax NS. He will be missed and our thoughts go out to his wife and family in this time of sorrow. - Posted by: Betty Blackmore Family (Aunt and cousins) on: May 13, 2012
