Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET MCLEOD August 7, 1917 - May 9, 2012 It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Friend on Wednesday evening, May 9, 2012 at Beacon Hill Lodge at 94 years young. Margaret left to mourn her loss and to cherish so many happy memories, her son Wayne (Marilyn), and her treasured grandsons Colin and Kyle McLeod. She will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and grand-nephews in British Columbia and Ontario. Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband Murdoch Bert McLeod in June 2001, her mother Sarah Hill and father James Burton, her infant sister Jean, her twin sister Georgina, sister Helen and brother Robert. She always said, it's lonely being the last one. Margaret cared deeply for her family always putting their needs before that of herself. While a series a strokes robbed her of her ability to converse in later years, she was the epitome of elegance; never a hair out of place and she always managed a smile...a smile and blue eyes that many friends will forever remember as contagious. Having endured the Flood of 1950, she and Bert rebuilt their home and she continued to live in it for the next 62 years. Her garden remained her passion and center of enjoyment and she spent countless hours caring for flowers and ripping out weeds by hand right up to the year prior to her death. We thank her neighbours for keeping an eye on her over the years especially when Marg's thoughts turned to spring window cleaning. Truly, the biggest impact on her life was giving up driving at age 92. The loss of independence is an awful thing she always said. We didn't need weather forecasting in the McLeod household as her joints were a far superior indicator than meteorologists of the day. It became a known fact that Family and friends couldn't leave her home after a visit or dinner without an assortment of baked goods in hand....no was not an answer! Both Bert and Marg remained long-time members of John Black Memorial United Church as well as the Masonic Order and the Eastern Star respectively. Margaret was especially proud of the recognition and receipt of her 50 year Anniversary Pin and crystal plate presented to her by Jephthah Chapter No. 22, Order of The Eastern Star, an organization where she cultivated many friendships over the years. To that end, the Family wishes to thank the pastoral care volunteers of the Eastern Star along with all her friends who took the time to extend their support in her later years. As well, our heartfelt thanks goes out to the Nurses and health care professionals on the 9th floor of Beacon Hill Lodge for the outstanding care and loving kindness shown to Margaret over the past three months. You know who you are and you are truly God's angels. We thank each and every one of you. A very special thanks to Ina Williamson, Audrey Raines and both Joan and Howard English for their continued and loving friendship over many, many years. The kindness extended to our Mom will be forever remembered and greatly appreciated. At Marg's request, cremation has taken place with interment and a graveside service to be held for Family and all friends at Elmwood Cemetery on Wednesday, May 16 at 10:30 a.m. A reception in her honour will follow at 11:00 a.m. at John Black United Church, 898 Henderson Hwy. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marg's memory c/o the John Black Memorial United Church.
