JOHN LEO PAUL NORDAL 1916 - 2012 After a full and long life, John Leo Paul Nordal went to join his wife Jeanne on May 12, 2012. Born in Stonewall, MB on November 15, 1916, the eldest child of seven, he met Jeanne Hamilton McCune at a hockey game, quickly choosing her as the mate for his life. They were married on June 3, 1943 and were blessed with two daughters, Darryl and Cheri. Their small family expanded with the marriage of their daughters and eventually the addition of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John began his career with Brinks before moving on to Winnipeg Electric and then finally Winnipeg Transit, transitioning into a management role before his retirement in 1982. He always called retirement the best job he ever had, enjoying travel, golf and donning a clown suit to entertain children as part of the Khartoum Shrine and as a life member of the Khartoum comedians. John was also a member of the St. James Masonic Lodge 121 AFAM and spent many years serving as Past Associate Guardian of Bethel 7, Past Associate Grand Guardian of Manitoba and Past Associate Grand Bethel Guardian with the IOJD. John is survived by his daughter Darryl and her husband Bob, his daughter Cheri and her husband Rick, four grandchildren: Janice (Frank), Craig (Janice), Chris (Krista) and Brent (Kari), and seven great-grandchildren: Keenan, Alexandra, Carter, Roan, Luke, Jeffrey and Kelton. He is also survived by his sister Muriel Martin, and considering his lifelong love of animals, several grand and great-granddogs and cats. Not long after a loving celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary, John lost his beloved wife Jeanne suddenly on January 28, 1994. Now they are together again to hold hands, partake in their love of cruises and watch their favourite game shows. Give her a kiss for us, Dad. A celebration of John's life will be held Friday, May 18, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shrine Transportation Fund, 1155 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3P 1B9. The family also wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Charleswood Care Centre and to Home Care workers Catherine and Anna-Lou. Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • I am the youngest of Muriel's 6 children and I remember visiting Jeanne and Johnny's home in Winnipeg when I was a little girl every year when we would come for our month at the 'beach'. I specifically remember always getting an ice cream treat when we were there - haha but I also remember how jovial and friendly Uncle Johnny was. I know it's a little late but I'm very sorry for your loss. Our Mom died this year in April and we miss her so much. - Posted by: Joy Boudreau (Niece) on: Nov 24, 2014

  • I remember Mr. Nordal, well, from many Job's Daughter events and Shrine functions; including the circus where he saved me from being thrown into the Khartoum Kops paddy wagon when I was selling programs and got a little too close to ringside when they were looking for their next victim to parade around! My condolences go out to Darryl Gill and family. He was truly one-of-a-kind.
