SLYVIA BERNICE JOHNSON MCFETRIDGE (nee KARPYSHYN) On May 14, 2012, Sylvia Bernice McFetridge passed away peacefully at Golden Links Lodge after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. Sylvia was 79 Years old. Sylvia grew up in the North End of Winnipeg having attended Isaac Newton and Tec Voc. She was very active in the arts as a youngster - singing, Ukrainian dancing and playing violin. She fondly recalled her working years as a key punch operator at the Canadian Wheat Board, Eatons Data Entry Mail Order Dept. and Canada Packers. She made many good lifelong friends there. Sylvia bowled in the Thursday afternoon ladies league at Windsor Park lanes for many years and ran the Y.B.C. league for her daughter. She taught Karen the art of shopping at Eatons downtown. She was the first to join in on any practical joke. She loved to play cards, fish, dance and kibbutz around. She enjoyed many fun years at Pointe du Bois and Lake Metigoshe with family and friends. And she was an integral part of the block parties on Penfold Crescent. Sylvia leaves to mourn her husband of 29 years, Robert McFetridge (Bert); her daughter Karen Schumann (Darcy) and granddaughters Lauren and Jillian of Calgary; stepdaughters Sharen (John) Robertson; Brenda (Gary) Colyer and Doreen (Danny) Coutts and their families. Sylvia was predeceased by her first husband Lennard Howard Johnson in 1976; her parents William and Anna Karpyshyn in 1971, and her brother Walter and sister Josephine. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2012, at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Pallbearers will be John Robertson, Danny Coutts, Gary Colyer, Darcy Schumann, Walter Fostey and Allan Robertson. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2 or The Arthritis Society #105-386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3R6 are gratefully accepted.
