HENDRIKA VAN DE VORST With sadness, Hendrika's family announces the passing of our mother at the age of 88 years old at Riverview Health Centre on Thursday, May 24, 2012. She was born in Eindhoven, Netherlands and came to Canada in 1954, to be with her husband John, who predeceased her in 1979. Together they raised their family in Winnipeg, spending many weekends at the cottage near Lac du Bonnet. When John passed away, Mom went to work at the University of Manitoba until she retired. In her retirement years, Mom loved to participate in various seniors groups and choirs. She had somewhere to go every day. Her recent years were spent at Riverview Health Centre where she received wonderful care from the staff, which was a great comfort to our family. We commented many times to each other how much we appreciated the people at C1, who cared for Mom so well. Thank you to all of you Hendrika was loved by all particularly for her positive attitude and out-going personality. She loved to sing, loved flowers and birds and loved her family and friends. She was quick with a smile and would not let life get her down. Her family, Hubert (Sandi), Cathy (Gary), Louis (Linda) Ed (Charlotte), George (Marcie), Ray (Pam), Bill (Carol) and John (Kirsten), will miss her deeply as will her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. We know she touched many friends that will miss her as well. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, May 29, at Our Lady of Victory Church, 249 Arnold Ave. at 11:00 a.m. Flowers are gratefully declined and instead we ask that you consider a donation to a charity of your choice or to the CNIB or CancerCare Manitoba. 586-8044

  • For my Oma; I thank you for sharing your stories with me, for laughing with me at times and for loving us all. You are one of the strongest women I have ever known and I love you for your never-failing optimism and faith in God. Your prayer for all of us (your children and grandchildren) is published in my book "That we find faith and trust in the heavens and follow along our paths in life under spiritual guidance." You will be missed though we know your voice in song and contagious laugh will echo in the heavens and stay with us forever. ...Never good-bye Oma, but "until we meet again...." xoxo - Posted by: Angie & Shenton White (with Sebela & Avaya) (Grand-Children & Great-Grandchildren) on: May 26, 2012

  • I am grateful to have been a friend and neighbor of Mrs. Vande De Vorst. She wanted me to call her by her first name, but she would always be Mrs. Vandy to me. We had many visits over the fence and on each others patio. We laughed and we cried together and I have wonderful memories of her. Good bye for now Mrs. Vandy Love Susan - Posted by: Susan Dueck (Friend and ) on: May 26, 2012
