NELSON HOWARD Nelson Howard passed away peacefully, in his sleep, at home on May 21, 2012. Nelson was predeceased in 1995 by his loving wife, Peggy, and is survived by daughter, Janice McVicar, son-in-law, Craig and grandson, Gareth, and by daughter, Pam Howard. Nelson was a veteran of the Second World War, providing service in Europe with the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war, he worked for the federal public service until his retirement and then enjoyed more than 30 years of well-being doing the things he loved most. He was known in earlier years for his love of birds, first keeping a flock of homing pigeons and later breeding canaries. Most of all, he lived on his own terms and was able to conclude his life while still maintaining relative independence. The family would like to express gratitude to Dr. William Barnes for his care through the years, to his W.R.H.A. home care staff and for the friendship of neighbours, especially Ruth and Elmer Gill. Cremation has taken place. In compliance with Nelson's wishes, no funeral service will be held.
