Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUBY ISABEL LAURIE Our Beloved Mother, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Great-Great-Grandma and Sister, Ruby (Bunny / Bunty) Isabel Laurie (nee Sim) passed away peacefully in her sleep at 6:15 a.m., Thursday, May 17, 2012. She is safely in the arms of her one and only love, Jim, and her Lord. Others welcoming her to heaven are her parents, Ruby and Jack, her brother Hugh and sister-in-law Jackie, sister Cora and brother-in-law Roy, nephew John, and brother-in-law Bob. Those who will miss her ever so much are her daughter Joanne, son Robert / Bob, daughter Janice (Peter), six grandchildren, Scott, Laurie, Alynne, Trevor, Meghan and Lindsay, six great-grandchildren, Creston, Shaneen, April, Caleb, Elizabeth and Ruby, two great-great-grandchildren, Mateo and Shayla, three sisters, Joan, Mary (Earl) and Anne (Bob), and many nephews and nieces. Bunny was born in Winnipeg on February 4, 1920. Bunny met the love of her life in 1941 in the Deer Lodge Hospital where she worked as a dietician. Jim was recovering from a wound he received while serving in the Canadian Army. They married in 1942 and immediately moved to Pointe du Bois. During the 65 years there, she managed the local post office for 20, retiring in 1985, and contributed significantly to the lives and times of the town as a whole. Bunny and Jim resided there together until 1988 when he passed away. Bunny stayed on until her health forced her to move to Lac du Bonnet, where she lived in an apartment for a year before moving to the personal care home in 2008. Bunny was very well known for her beautiful hand work. Many, many people benefited from her knitting and crocheting. She was a member of the Pioneer Club in Lac du Bonnet and the Heritage Club out of Winnipeg. She was a member of the Ladies Auxilliary to the Anglican Church in Pointe du Bois and to the Legion in Pointe du Bois, serving many offices within those organizations. She was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch in Pointe du Bois and in fact was the last man standing . In her younger days, her passions, after knitting, were playing Bingo, singing and dancing - performing on stage at Pointe du Bois in such musicals as Show Boat as Julia and Uncle Tom's Cabin as Topsy. Bunny loved to read Harlequin romances and has read thousands of books. She also was an avid bird watcher and particularly loved hummingbirds. A unique and little known fact about Bunny is that she participated in roller derbys. WOW!! Who Knew!! Joanne, Bob and Janice will be eternally grateful for the life lessons their Mother gave them and for raising them to be good, kind people with a strong sense of values and character. You have done well and we will survive and prosper. THANK-YOU Mom. May you rest in peace. Bunny's family wishes to extend a heartfelt THANK-YOU to the many volunteers, aides and professionals of the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home. Also Thanks to Dr. Van Gend and Dr. Bruno for their unwavering support and a special thank you to Grace and Beverly. We invite you to join us for tea at the Legion in Lac du Bonnet on June 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. to celebrate Bunny's life. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home would be much appreciated by Bunny and her family.
