Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • As I look at at the 3 CFFTS staff photo in front of me, dated 19 Jun 89, with Hayden "at the controls" as Commandant, I am flooded with memories and emotions. What a tremendous influence Hayden will have had on hundreds (more so thousands) of co-workers and students in his many years within the flying community that he cared so much about. We all benefited greatly from his guidance, not only as a leader but as a friend and comrade. As mentioned in other tributes, he will be sorely missed. I offer my deepest sympathy to the family. - Posted by: Gerry Bohemier (Rotary Wing Flight Instructor under Hayden's guidance in Southport) on: May 29, 2012

  • While I was Commandant 3 CFFTS, Hayden was my Honourary Colonel and instrumental to the success of my time in Portage. I got to know him well, particularly while planning for 9 months the 2009 CF Days and Airshow at Southport. With the wisdom gained through many years in the pilot training world, especially as a former Commandant, he was instrumental to the event's success, which reflected the CF in a very positive light. I knew Hayden to always be positive and he tackled even the difficult tasks head-on and with humour. He was a fixture both in the pilot training world and in the Portage community. He will be missed! Our deepest sympathies to Gwen and the girls. - Posted by: Paul and Kathy Dittmann (Friend/Co-Worker) on: May 28, 2012

  • I have known Hayden in three chapters of his multi-faceted work and community careers, namely, his Canadian Air Force career, his Bombardier flight training role at Southport, and his Southport Board of Directors Chairmanship role. In each of these endeavours, Hayden was a very well respected propessional who provided leadership, dedication and caring. We shall all miss Hayden, and offer our sincere condolences to Gwen and the Henwood family. Vic Gerden - Posted by: Vic & Marg Gerden (Friend and colleague) on: May 28, 2012

  • For Gwen, family and friends. Like so many others, Wendy and I are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Hayden. I worked along side Hayden for many years in Portage and greatly admired him as a leader, a doer, and as a friend. He truly gave so much of himself in so many capacities in Portage La Prairie to the Air Force, to Pilot Training, to the community, to his church, and especially, to his family and friends. It might be easy to think the loss of Hayden is like removing a pillar from a foundation, but Hayden's good works, deeds and memories live on with all of us who knew him and thought so highly of him. - Posted by: Dan and Wendy Edgar (Friends) on: May 28, 2012
