STELLA JANSEN January 25, 1912 - May 28, 2012 Peacefully, on Tuesday, May 28, 2012, Stella passed away at the Middlechurch Home. She was born in Winnipeg in 1912, and had celebrated her 100th birthday on January 25. Stella was predeceased by her three brothers and three sisters and is survived by her niece Eleanor Zurowski (Mickey) and her three nephews Stewart Elliott (Fran), Donald Sechman (Melene), Ronald Peterson (Renata) and their families and her special friend John. Stella worked at the Children's Hospital for many years, retiring in 1975, from her position as the hospital's head purchasing agent. She was organist and director of the choir at St. John's Cantius Church for many years where she transcribed music into beautiful arrangements that were awesome and impressed all who heard them. Stella loved music and the arts especially ballet and opera. She took great delight in the beauty and majesty of the world. She started painting at age 80 and produced lovely landscapes which will be treasured by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was a kind, loving and generous person and a very integral part of our family and very much loved by us all. Our deep gratitude to the staff at Middlechurch Home for their constant concern and care, making Stella comfortable and well taken care of until the end. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Aunty Stella had the kindest heart, a generous spirit and the most giving nature that allowed her to love, nurture, teach, and "raise" our whole family. She was ahead of her time, a professional working woman in an era when most woman did not have careers. Aunty Stella was a gourmet cook, filling her small apartment with our large family and serving incredible food and hiding gifts for us all to find. In her prescense we all knew what it felt like to be loved unconditionally. She was an artist, an accomplished pianist, a connoisseur of opera and ballet. Aunty Stella loved the Arts and we all were blessed by her vast appreciation of art, nature and daily life. Her magical bed time stories about fairies and the Snow Queen have been passed down to three generations and we all remember the splendor of her Christmas Village creation. My life has been so enriched with having had Aunty Stella as a part of it. My heart is truly saddened with her passing. - Posted by: Katherine (Niece) on: May 30, 2012

  • Stella was a remarkable woman and an inspiration to everyone around here and everyone that knew her. My thoughts and prayers are with the Sechman family during this difficult time. - Posted by: Kimberley Boultbee (Friend of the Sechman family) on: May 30, 2012

  • I met Stella through my brother John when she lived at St Benedicts. I found her to be a wonderful person, I know John will miss her terribly, he always spoke of her and had kind things to say about her. Rest in Peace. - Posted by: Rose (Friend) on: May 30, 2012
