FRANCES FLORENCE (SUSIE) MCGOWAN (nee MCDERMAID) It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of a devoted and dear wife, mother, sister, aunt, grand and great-grandmother on May 15, 2012 aged 85 years, after a courageous but painful struggle. Susie was predeceased by her parents Hugh and Gladys McDermaid, her brother Malcolm in 1998 and her husband John in 2011. Susie will be lovingly remembered by her children Jim (Jan), Patti (Bruce), Andrew (Ruby), grandchildren, Jared (Valerie), Jocelyn (Gabe), Joshua, Brock (Meghan), Shannen, Rogan, April, and great-grandchildren Niamh and Peter. She also leaves behind her sister Pearl Cornelius, sister Shirley Walker (Spence), brother William McDermaid (Lila) and many other relatives and friends. Susie was born and raised in Indian Head, Saskatchewan. She was a nursing graduate of the Winnipeg General Hospital in 1950 and married John in 1952. After moving with John and her family to the West Coast in 1968 Susie continued to work in the medical field as a MOA for Dr. R. Burns in Richmond and Tsawwassen until her retirement in 1997. She was also a 50 year member of the PEO sisterhood. Susie touched the lives of many and forever will be missed. The family wishes to thank the staff of Brookside Lodge for their wonderful and compassionate care of Mom these past eight months. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Henderson's Langley Funeral Home, 20786 Fraser Highway, Langley, B.C. Interment of our parents' ashes will be in Indian Head, Saskatchewan on July 7, 2012.
