I met Ron socially several years before becoming a member of WPS and was able to gain a true understanding of what a remarkable character he really was. We remained friends and I later had the very rare opportunity to work alongside Ron in Division #23. He was a "one of a kind" man who instilled camaraderie and interest in every Police task that had to be undertaken no matter the circumstances. If you were a good guy you were with the very very best, if you were a bad guy you had serious trouble coming your way. Sincerest sympathy and condolences to Carol and family. Our sympathies to Carol and all family members in this very sad time. I regret not having been able to attend Ron's Celebration of Life as I was out of province. I'm sure everyone paid tribute to Ron in the style he would have wanted. Never a dull moment with Morin around. I'm sure he is still entertaining those who were taken from us all too soon. Our loss is their gain. Julie and Family - Posted by: Julie Chalmers (Family and Friend) on: Jun 27, 2012

Ron, you were the best. I have so many fond memories of you and David Shipman working together in the Crime Division. I will never ever forget your laugh, and you used to laugh at some pretty crazy things I must say. Carol, you were so lucky to have Ron in your life for so many years, and he was just crazy about you, I know that. Ron and Dennis Toyne are together again at last, that will be nice for the two of them. - Posted by: Ron Kushneryk (Friend and Colleague) on: Jun 10, 2012

A shock to hear of this sad news, I am sorry for your loss Carol. Ron was always ready with a laugh and a tale, Bob and I enjoyed so many good times with you two. I will never walk the ironwood trail in front of your home and not think of him puttering in the yard preparing for the family to arrive. I thank you for our times together and introducing us to Mission. - Posted by: Belva Polson (Friend from Pinawa) on: Jun 09, 2012

I work at the Pinawa Golf Course in the pro shop where I met Ron. Ron always seemed to show up on a really slow, boring day. I could always count on Ron to entertain me with stories as only he could tell and that would relieve the boredom for at least an hour. We are going to miss you Buddy! Our sympathy goes out to Carol and family. Rest in peace and keep it on the short grass! Kel - Posted by: Kel Crawford (friend) on: Jun 07, 2012

I am shocked, we met occasionally in Pinawa, golfed too infrequently, drank too few beers together here in Pinawa..but our few years as partners showed me a man of integrity and loyalty and a great sense of humor.....He will be missed sorely by Betty and I.. - Posted by: Harve Ostash (ex partner..good friend.) on: Jun 07, 2012

A writer of detective novels could not have thought up the character that Ron Morin was in real life. My last experience professionally with Ron was over a quarter of a century ago, when my good partner Ron Kushneryk and I shared a murder investigation with Ron and Dave Shipman. Ron and Dave, always professional and dedicated homicide investigators became legendary crime fighters in Winnipeg. Ron had a marvellous attitude and his sense of humour and ready smile would relieve a tense situation / atmosphere. Many veterans will recall the hilarious banter between Dennis Toyne and Ron and the way they could tell a story. Thanks for the memories Ron. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his beloved wife, loving family and dear friends. - Posted by: R. G. (Dick) Hickling (Colleague - Winnipeg Police ( 1960 to 1987 )) on: Jun 07, 2012

Ron, you were one in a million. I don't think Alex expected to see you quite so soon, but you and he and Dennis and Murt are all together again, having cocktails, smoking and playing crib. Happy Trails. My condolences to Carol and the whole family. - Posted by: Tuckie Cameron Penticton (long time friend) on: Jun 07, 2012

Ron may have retired as a policeman but he was a true ambassador to Pinawa and our golf club. I sat on the Green's Committee with Ron at the club for a couple of years and he used to tease me that I enjoyed getting up at the crack of dawn to play my rounds of golf before most people got out of bed. I told him not to knock it till he tried it. Not long after I would see Carol and Ron at a junction on the course a few holes behind and he had a big grin on his face. He took me aside not long after and told me about how much he enjoyed having the course to himself on those fabulous morning rounds. We are richer for having him as a friend. He will be missed. - Posted by: Rick Stefansson (Golfer at Pinawa) on: Jun 07, 2012

Carol, I will be unable to attend the memorial service due to out of province commitments but I will think of you on the day. I had a lot of respect for this man. He had the grit, the smarts and the tenacity to excel at a very tough job. He was also great company. Ron and Dave Shipman used to hit my home in NK for a steak and a glass of wine fairly regularly and we had some great laughs. Those were the days... - Posted by: Jack S.Tinsley (former colleague WPS) on: Jun 06, 2012

As a young rookie cops we were all in awe of the dynamic duo that was known as "Shipman & Morin." These guys were charismatic, smooth talking and stylish coppers the likes of what you could only see in fantasy television shows like Miami Vice. The difference was that underneath the polished exterior you would find a fierce unquenchable thirst to pursue some of the baddest ass criminals in our City. These guys set the bar for policing in Winnipeg and gave us all something to shoot for. I was honoured and grateful when Ron recently attended my retirement party and share the pain of the loss for such a great soldier. Rest in Peace Mr Morin....condolences to Carol and family. - Posted by: James Jewell (Colleague, student, fan) on: Jun 06, 2012
