CONSTANCE JOYCE CHALMERS (nee BRAITHWAITE) B.A., B.Ed., M.Ed. May 9, 1923 - June 2, 2012 Following surgery at Halifax Infirmary. She is a cherished memory to Garth, her husband for 65 years; her son John Richard, daughters, Patricia Lynne and Wendy Faye Victoria (Lafontaine); sister Daisy Irene Legg; nieces Shelagh Marchenski and Nancy Rutherford; nephews James, Robert and Kerry Legg and other relatives in Canada, Australia, England and South Africa. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, John Wesley and Constance Agnes (Cliffe) Braithwaite; her elder sister Dorothy Jean Rutherford, her brother Frederick George Cliffe Braithwaite and nephew Terence Patrick Legg. Born in Bebington, Cheshire, England, she came with her family to Canada, where she lived in Spy Hill, Saskatchewan, Homewood, Brandon and Winnipeg, Manitoba, before moving with her husband and three children to Halifax in 1965. There she combined a career in teaching (Reading Resource Specialist) with her family and community involvement. Her special interests were in gardening, historical buildings and a lifelong support for the use of phonics in reading development. The funeral will take place in All Saints Anglican Church, Bedford later this week. Memorial donations in her name can be directed to the V.O.N., Scott Manor House, Halifax or All Saints Anglican Church, Bedford, Nova Scotia.
