EVELYN SHUSHACK Evelyn passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of June 2, 2012. She is survived by daughters Janet (John) Hager, Debra (Ken) Shushack and Cyndy (Ron) Kutzner; sisters Ruth and Stacie Hagberg, Sandra Talaga, Karen (Don) Bain and Johanne (Michael) Chute; one brother David Hagberg; grandchildren Stefan (Jeannette) Hager, Kristen Hager, Paige and Braden Kutzner and Lauren Furman; great-grandchildren Beckett and Myla Hager, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Fred in 1983 as well as three siblings, Lillian Duggan, Barry and Reg Hagberg. Born in Winnipeg in 1932 to John and Ingjurd, Evelyn was the second eldest in a family of ten children. Following school she began a career as an office cleric working for Eatons and playing baseball and leading Scouts in her spare time. Her 1954 marriage to Fred, a station agent for the C.P.R., brought her to Upsala and Wabigoon, Ontario before returning to Manitoba by way of Pilot Mound in the mid-1960s. In 1966 she returned to Ontario when she and her family moved to Red Lake where she re-entered the workforce once her children were all in school. Former employers include Sabourin Air, Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Hospital, Red Lake Board of Education, Pine Ridge Apartments and the Natures Inn. Although her interests were varied her greatest passion was her family, nurturing their imaginations and encouraging their creativity. Not an outgoing person by nature, she was the foundation from which they have taken their strength and direction. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to those who cared for Evelyn at Northwood Lodge Extended Care Home for the past six years. A private family celebration honouring her life will be held on June 7, 2012 in Red Lake, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Hospital Foundation through Herold Funeral Home, P.O. Box 237, Red Lake, ON P0V 2M0.
