KATHLEEN ARCHAMBAULT (nee CARMICHAEL) Kay Archambault (nee Carmichael) was born in Binscarth, Manitoba on May 31, 1922 and passed away peacefully on her 90th birthday surrounded by her family in the Ste. Rose General Hospital. Kay was raised on a farm in Wishart, Saskatchewan with her two siblings, Pat and John. She took her Registered Nurse training at the Winnipeg General Hospital and upon graduation, worked there in the operating room for a short time. Kay obtained a position with the Ste. Rose General Hospital in January of 1946. Kay married Gaston Archambault on October 13, 1947. They raised five children on the family farm and moved into the town of Ste. Rose in 1967. While raising their family, Kay returned to work on call at the hospital in the OR and emergency room. She returned to work full time in 1961 becoming the director of nursing in 1965 and retiring in 1983. Kay was a caregiver. Neighbours would show up at the farm with their sick or injured children looking for her help. She wouldn't hesitate to rush out in the middle of the night or in a snowstorm to assist Dr. Gendreau in the operating room. She felt that it was important to take care of others. She must have gotten that message across as there are numerous nurses in the family. Kay was active in her community even after her retirement volunteering for various organizations. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Bob and Audrey's children: Wade, Nicole, Ryan and Natalie, Darcy and Terri Lynn's children: Eric and Matthew, Pat and Chris' children: Randy and Jordan Pennycook, Margaret and Nelson's children: Karly and Taylor Woods. She supported all of her family and loved sharing time with each of us, watching us in our activities, celebrating achievements and simply giving us her unconditional love. She was there for advice, but never criticized how her children chose to raise her grandchildren, making her an excellent mother-in-law. Kay enjoyed spending time with her friends. She forged close relationships with many of her co-workers, planning dinners together, sharing time visiting, walking, playing cards and travelling. She had many fond memories of summers spent at Manipogo or travelling throughout Canada with the Valcourt family. She was predeceased by her parents William and Victoria Carmichael, siblings John Carmichael and Pat Mazurkewich, her husband Gaston Archambault, and her son Raymond Archambault. We would like to thank our Grandmother and Mother for all of her life lessons and unconditional love. We will miss you and will love you always.....your family. Prayers for Kay were offered on Saturday, June 2 at 10:00 a.m. with Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the Ste. Rose de Lima Roman Catholic Church, Ste. Rose du Lac. Fr. Leo Fernandes celebrated the mass with the interment following in the Ste. Rose Cemetery. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in memory of Kay to the Trans Canada Trail, 43 Westminister Ave. W., Montreal, Quebec H4X 1Y8 or to the Prevost Foundation for the Family Room at the Ste. Rose General Hospital. Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services, Ste. Rose Chapel in care of arrangements, (204) 447-2444, www.sneathstrilchuk.com
