ISOBEL JANE (DOLLY) JUFFS (nee BLAIR) Dolly passed away as she lived - quietly and with dignity - on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at St. Boniface Hospital. Isobel Jane Blair was born in Kelfield, Saskatchewan, on November 11, 1919, to Margaret and Bert Blair. She was so small that her father said she looked like a doll, and the name stuck for the rest of her life. She was a pioneer in so many ways, travelling with her family from the prairie to northern Saskatchewan in an ox-drawn cart in the dust-filled days of the Depression; surviving a Diphtheria epidemic that claimed the lives of three of her siblings; and serving with the R.C.A.F. in London during the Second World War. In England, Dolly met the dashing Bob Juffs, married him in London in 1945, relocated to Toronto after the war and welcomed three children - Gail, Joan and Jack. After moving to Winnipeg, Dolly joined the City of Winnipeg as a swimming instructor, retiring in 1987 as Supervisor of Aquatic Programs at Pan Am Pool. She was predeceased by her husband Bob in 1993, and by her daughter Joan Paterson in 2008. Left to cherish her memory is her family: Gail and Andrew Bagnall (Blair, Drew and Brittany); Patrick Paterson (Melanie and Evan), and Jack and Shelby Juffs (Kyle and Lorelle). At her request, the family will celebrate her life in a private service. Donations in Dolly's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
