HARRIET L. PENTLAND Harriet (Hattie) Lilian Pentland (nee Brook), beloved wife of the late H. Clare Pentland, passed away peacefully at Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home, Winnipeg, on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at the age of 97. Harriet was born in Elgin, MB, on February 24, 1915, and grew up in Boissevain. She trained as a psychiatric nurse at Brandon Mental Hospital (1935 to 1938), where she met her future husband, and completed her RN at Vancouver General Hospital. Harriet and Clare were married in Vancouver in 1942. Harriet worked as a nurse in Vancouver, Toronto, and at Winnipeg General Hospital (Health Sciences Centre). She was active for many years in the Winnipeg Council of Women, the White Cross Guild, and the Winnipeg Music Festival. In later years she was an enthusiastic member of several bridge groups and bowling leagues, and travelled the world with her long-time friend Elva Cranna. Harriet was predeceased by her husband Clare and by her six brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons David, Donald, John (Nettie), three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many family members. Heartfelt thanks to all the staff involved in her care at Tuxedo Villa. As per Harriet's request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
