SOPHIA KATHLEEN GORDON (nee RESCH) It is with sadness that I announce the passing of my dear Aunt, Sophia Kathleen Gordon. Sophia or Sue as she was commonly known by her friends, passed away at the Middlechurch Home on June 6, 2012 where she resided for the last year. In April she celebrated her 93rd birthday. Sophia was born in 1919 in Winnipeg, where she lived her whole life. In her youth she was an avid hockey fan, and it was at the North End hockey rink, where she met the love of her life George Gordon, whom she was married to for 47 years. Sophia worked as a dental assistant for 20 years. When she retired, she and George enjoyed 18 winters in Hawaii, where they had many happy hours with their friends. Sophia dedicated herself for over 15 years to looking after her mother, Mary Resch while she was at the Fred Douglas Lodge. Not only did she visit with her mother at least four times a week, she was also a residence volunteer. Sophia was a member of the St. Joseph's Mens Club for many years where she enjoyed playing bingo, bowling and the social interactions with friends. In later years, she enjoyed taking bus trips with friends to casinos. She loved playing cards and enjoyed our family gatherings, where she was first to sit at the rumoli table. Sophia was predeceased by her parents John and Mary Resch, her brothers Chuck and Frank Resch, and her husband George Gordon. She is survived by her niece, Frances (Resch) / Bill Bradley, nephew Ron (Janice) Resch of Alberta. Sophia (Sue) enjoyed her time at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, and I would like to thank all of the nursing staff and aides on her ward for the wonderful care they provided to her this last year. A special thanks to Tracy for your kindness and understanding. At Sophia's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. 586-8044

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • We are sorry to hear about Sue's passing. She was a lovely lady. Sue had the most interesting stories about her Hawaiian trips and her husband's hockey games which she shared with us while sitting outside in the court yard. - Posted by: Frank & Barbara Noll (Friend and neighbor at 212 Watson St.) on: Jun 17, 2012

  • Bruce's father William Gordon was the eldest of Georges brothers (and sister). We live in Ohio, but have many fond memories of George and Soph. They came to visit us when we lived in Florida and we made several trips to Winnepeg over the years. When our Christmas Card was returned last year we figured Sophie had moved from her home. Glad to hear she loved where she was in the end and that she lived such a full and fun life. Our love to you all...Laurie Gordon - Posted by: Bruce and Laurie Gordon (nephew) on: Jun 17, 2012
