RUTH BERTHA FINNSSON (ROCHE) January 15, 1922 - June 15, 2012 It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Ruth Bertha Finnsson (Roche) on June 15, 2012 at the Arborg Personal Care Home. Mom will be sadly missed by her beloved husband of 71 years, Asgeir, her children Lorraine (Roger), Bernice (Murray), Leonard (Christine), Linda (Kris), Colin (Karen), Sherri (Terry), Glenda (Ronnie) and daughter-in-law Gudrun; her grandchildren Kimberly, Kelvin, Kelly, Patricia, Joanne, Lyle, Lance, Lori, Carey, Cindi, Cory, Jonathan, Alysha, Bradley, Michelle, Leanne, Patrick, Gavin, Chad, Michael, Justin, Lindsay, Jason, Ashley, Amber, her 24 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also left to mourn her passing, are her brothers Gordon (Audrey) Roche and Lloyd (Jeanette) Roche. Mom was predeceased by her parents Otto and Veiga Roche, her in-laws Siggi and Hildur Finnsson, her son Ronald, grandson Raymond, great-granddaughter, Jennalee, sisters Josie (Jim), Margaret (Siggi), Tillie (Dori), Shirley (Jonas), her brothers Arthur (Phyllis), Victor (Margaret), Wilfred (Edna), William, Harold, sister-in-law Lil, her sisters-in-law Thora (Joe), Sigga (Henry), Salin and brothers-in-law Fridrik (Helga), Sigfus (Margaret), Halldor (Emma), Brandur (Loa), Kristjon and Sveinn. Mom was born January 15, 1922 in Gimli, Manitoba and grew up on a farm in Hnausa. At a young age she found work as a mother's helper. It was while she was working in the Vidir area that mom met her future husband, Asgeir. They were married on November 22, 1940 and settled on the Finnsson Family Farm where they raised their family. Mom especially enjoyed her visits with her family. Hot coffee and baking were always available for anyone who dropped in. Her chocolate cake with brown sugar icing, home-made donuts, pies and warm bread fresh from the oven were a few of the favourites. There was always Grape Kool Aid in the Fridge and home-made chocolate chip cookies in the cupboard for the young at heart. Mom was an active member of the Vidir Ladies Aid Catering Group for many years. She loved to sew, knit, and do word search puzzles. When mom had a few moments to herself, she enjoyed reading and watching her favourite daytime program. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Vidir Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Lunch to follow at the Vidir Hall. A special thanks to the staff at the Assisted Living and the Personal Care Home in Arborg for all the care they gave Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. We love you mom and you will be greatly missed. A mother holds her children's hands for just a little while, but their hearts forever. MACKENZIE FUNERAL CHAPEL ARBORG (204) 467-2525 mackhome@mts.net
