LORNE PORTH 1945 - 2012 On June 14, 2012, after a valiant struggle, Lorne Fredrick Porth passed into the arms of God. Lorne was born on May 14, 1945, in Winnipeg, Manitoba and was predeceased by his father, Fredrick (Rudy) Porth, and his mother, Doris Porth (Brunwin). He is survived by his beloved wife Gina and their three children and families: Laural Porth-Jones and Richard Jones, (Gwyneth and R. Dylan Fredrick); Greg Porth and Alexandra Lount, (Ella and Roxanne); Brock and Lysa Porth, (Liam, Ryland and Zoƫ); his sister and brother-in-law Dianne and Dennis Truss and family, and beloved nieces, nephews and close extended family. Lorne was a man who lived for his family and the close group of friends whom he considered part of that family. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Lorne graduated with a degree in Economics at the University of Manitoba and St. Paul's College. He met the love of his life, Regina Cottingham, at Clear Lake in the summer of 1968. They were married at St. Ignatius Church in 1971. Gina and Lorne formed a strong team, meeting life's challenges and joys together as Lorne always referred to Gina as his best friend. He loved his children unconditionally and showed that love every day in endless ways. He participated with them in hockey, scouting, riding lessons, or any other endeavour that they chose, especially in their education, offering encouragement and honest critique. His quest for the perfect Christmas tree was a solid family tradition. Lorne was also a businessman, sportsman, and lover of nature. His success in the construction business supported his success in life providing assistance, guidance and a foundation to many and he lived with a sense of purpose, good humor, and care for others. Lorne was forever building or fixing something a structure, a friendship, a relationship. The Lake was perhaps his favourite place to be, as it combined family, friends, nature and time with his dog, Buddy. With his good friends Murray, Uncle Tunney and crew, he explored miles of Northwestern Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The wilderness canoe trips he shared with the guys became legend. Later, Lorne widened his travel to include trips to Mexico and Europe, sharing his time with friends and family and planning the next adventure. Lorne held many close including his seven grandchildren, nieces and nephews and all the kids he considered to be his own. The family would like to express our gratitude to Lorne's doctors, nurses and all the dedicated staff of 7A West, St. Boniface Hospital. You are truly a credit to your professions. For many years, Lorne sat on the board of MacDonald Youth Services. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Salvation Army Children's Camp Fund, MacDonald Youth Services, or St. Mary's Academy Bursary fund, class of 1965. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 255 Stafford Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. We love you Dad, you will be missed. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace, Amen. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.mb.ca 885-9715

We learned about Lorne's passing from Jocelyn Preston. Terry's memories with Lorne date back to the 50's and early 60's. Allan Grecko, Donald Low, and Bruce McKinnon were all part of those early years at Winnipeg Beach. Our sympathy to Gina and family from Terry and Linda Smith. - Posted by: Terry Smith (6th Avenue, Winnipeg Beach ) on: Aug 26, 2012

Hi Gina, I am so sorry to hear about Lorne, I know that he fought hard. God has taken him into His hands and now he will no longer suffer. I hope that you are okay and that your family and friends will be a great help to you at this very difficult time. Thinking of you and praying for your whole family. He was wonderful person and I will remember his sense of humour. Take care. - Posted by: Mary-ALice Isaac (friend) on: Jul 05, 2012
