Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • When I was skimming through websites on my computer today here in Comox, British Columbia, Canada what a surprise I got when I saw the name “Robert Hoare”, the name of my roommate during my second year at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, 1948-49. I didn’t recognize the picture so I wasn’t sure if it was the Bob Hoare I knew. But when the article mentioned he had a PhD in biochemistry and gave concerts on the organ I said “that’s the guy!" I was in my second year of Engineering and Bob and I shared a bedroom in a boarding house. There were four other student tenants and six more came in for meals, Bob and I used to play duets on the piano to entertain the guys and gals, It was fun. Bob was a great pianist and covered my mistakes. Bob went on to make a success and an outstanding name for himself in biochemistry, I studied audio engineering in Hollywood, worked for CJOR radio and CBC television in Vancouver and then RCA records in New York and Hollywood ending up in my own business in high speed cassette tape duplication in North Hollywood from 1970 to 2002 when I retired. One summer in the early 1990’s my wife and I drove across Canada from Vancouver to Toronto stopping off to have dinner with Bob and family (I think that was Winnipeg) It’s really good to have known him. • Mrs. Hoare, Tricia, Ted, and family; Please accept my deepest condolences on your loss. I shall always remember Bob’s humour, which was especially special. As I knew him, he was young at heart and had an open mind. He offered great understanding to me and to others who were made to feel like family in your home. He will never be forgotten and shall live on with us forever within our hearts and our memories. God Bless him. Sincerely, Jim Haines - Posted by: Jim Haines (Family Friend) on: Jun 27, 2012
