DAVE PRANTEAU April 22, 1952 - June 22, 2012 Dave Pranteau passed away in Vancouver with family and friends at his side. Dave, a community member of the Grand Rapids First Nation was born in The Pas, Manitoba. He moved to Vancouver from Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1991. Dave's training was in the areas of family systems therapy and conflict resolution. His career was dedicated to improving the social and economic conditions of Aboriginal peoples and he worked in the areas of housing, employment and training, homelessness, HIV and AIDS and economic development. Dave is particularly known for his leadership and passion in the area of children and family services and he paved the way for Aboriginal authorities both in Manitoba and in B.C. to take control and appropriately manage services for Aboriginal children and families. For the past 12 years, Dave has been self-employed as a management consultant and continued his community work through research, facilitation, mediation and engagement with his business partner and friend that he met at Royal Roads University. Dave was a true leader, a brilliant orator, a teacher, a mentor, a loyal friend and committed family man. He was a deeply spiritual person who lived the values of integrity, loyalty, self-sufficiency, generosity and respect for all. Dave is survived by his wife Bernadette Spence; son David Sage; daughter, Marcia Assiniboine; brothers Stephen, Adam, Alfred, Norman; and sisters Ida, Beatrice, and Jean. He is predeceased by his parents Susan and Stephen Pranteau; brothers Wilfred, John, Roy, Harry; and sister Kathy. The funeral took place on Wednesday, June 27 in the community of Nelson House, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society. A Celebration of Life for Dave will be held in Vancouver, B.C., on September 14, 2012. An announcement for the Celebration of Life will be posted in the weeks to come.
