VICTORIA SHEILA REISS (nee SHUMSKY) On Friday, June 22, 2012, at the Health Sciences Centre, after a short illness, Vicky Reiss passed away at the age of 73. Vicky, beloved wife of 55 years to Harry Reiss; mother of Jeffrey, wife Marlis, grandchildren Sheena, Anita, and Leanna; Alan; and Ken, wife Sonya, grandchildren Chloe, Noah, and Charlie; and brother, Jack Shumsky. Vicky was predeceased by her parents, Hymie and Lillian Shumsky, and her brother, Sidney. Vicky was born on July 9, 1938 in Winnipeg, Manitoba where she spent her entire life. She grew up in the north-end of Winnipeg, where she graduated high school from St John's Tech. In 1956, while on a vacation in Clear Lake, Manitoba, she met the love of her life, Harry, and they married the following year. Vicky enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted homemaker who took pleasure preparing delicious meals for her extended family. She looked forward to winter vacations with her husband and close friends in Florida, where she spent many relaxing hours swimming, socializing and enjoying the warm weather. Vicky was a proud member of the National Council of Jewish Women, Hadassah-WIZO, and Rosh Pina Sisterhood. She took great pleasure riding her bicycle that she had since she was a teenager, as well as reading novels and watching some of her favourite television shows, usually with her little 4-legged companion, Ziggy, by her side. She often played Bridge and Mahjong with her friends. Vicky had a playful sense of humour, and always looked forward to the opportunity of spending time with her family and close friends. The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the compassionate care given to Vicky by the doctors, nurses and care-aids while at HSC. Funeral services, officiated by Rabbi Larry Lander, were held at the Rosh Pina Memorial Park on Friday, June 22, 2012. Pallbearers were Sam Reiss, Sheldon Altman, Morris Blutstein, Alan Daien, Richard Altman and Eli Shapiro.
