BERNARD (BARNEY) JOSEPH MILLER On Friday, June 22, 2012, Barney Miller passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Center at the age of 83. Barney was born April 8, 1929, near Radville, SK. After leaving Saskatchewan Barney became a career transport truck driver at the age of 18. His last employer was Motorways, with whom he was employed for over 14 years until his retirement. Barney was a man with a big presence and a big heart. He married his wife Frances in 1974, and they had been married for 38 years at the time of his death. In Frances, Barney found his soulmate and someone to participate with him in the activities he so enjoyed. For Barney, retirement brought the opportunity to take up golf, camping and travel. Even though he was retired, Barney worked at his office every day a lazyboy chair in the living room surrounded by financial papers, letters, and files and tuned in to the Report on Business channel. He shared many happy times with his family at his cottage at Booster Lake, where he loved to fish and go snowmobiling. Barney had a great love for animals and any dog that found a home with him was the luckiest dog in the world. He had a sense of humour like no other. Many people have been entertained by the telling of The Barney Stories and the pranks he pulled on his grandchildren are legendary. Barney is loved and survived by his wife Frances and his children, Donald Miller, Sandra Miller, Charlotte (Tom) Cels, and Carla (Russell) Hall, and his grandchildren, Cari (Aaron), Mark, Lauren, Brian, Erik and James. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Honora Miller, his brothers John, Donald, Thomas, George, his sister Patricia, and his stepdaughter Corinne Schnitzler. At Barney's request, cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will take place at a later date. The family would like to give sincere thanks to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital CancerCare and the Riverview Health Center palliative care unit for their wonderful care and compassion. I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun; Of happy memories that I leave when life is done. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
