LAWRENCE LAVALLEE
Date of Passing: Jul 01, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAWRENCE LAVALLEE 1921 - 2012 On July 1, 2012, with his children by his side, Laurie quietly and unexpectedly slipped away from us at the Grace Hospital. Besides his sisters Louise Lane, Rita Elliot and Mona Harper, he will be lovingly remembered by his son Lindsay (Lynn), daughter Lorraine (Mark), grandchildren Jason (Kate), Tracy, Brett, Katie and Nikki. He also leaves eight great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law Marguerite Slobodzian, and many nieces and nephews. Laurie was predeceased by his parents Alex and Ida Matilda and by the love of his life, his wife, Simone. Laurie volunteered for active service and served overseas from May, 1942 to April, 1945. On June 15, 1946 he and Simone married and spent their first years together on a small homestead grain farming and raising livestock. Laurie also worked at Manitoba Hydro from 1954 until he retired in 1983 after which time he remained active with the Knights of Columbus and most importantly to him, caring for those he loved. A loving father and grandfather, Laurie was devoted to his family and friends until the end. We will try to carry on, living our lives according to the example he set. He truly was, and still is, our rock and mentor. As a family, we thank those at Grace Hospital who helped care for Dad; may you all know your efforts matter deeply and your thoughtfulness is very much appreciated. Viewing will take place in the St. Francois Xavier Roman Catholic Parish Church, 1053 Hwy. 26 at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 6. Father Isaie Blanchette will celebrate the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. and interment will follow in the churchyard cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so may donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Suite 200, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6. Laurie was a lovely man when we lived in SFX years ago and though we haven't been in touch for many years I remember him well and his friendship with my dad Lou. He and Simone were people my folks both thought fondly of. We are sorry for your loss and offer our prayers for his eternal rest and to you for peace and strength in the time to come.
