CHARLES ERIC NEWBURY Eric passed away peacefully, at Donwood Manor in his 95th year. He was predeceased by his first wife Ruth in 1994, and his second wife Irene in 2002. He was also predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Hilda, and his sisters Muriel and Hilda. Left to cherish his memory is his son Ralph, grandchildren Derek and Kendal, and siblings Elsie, Harry, George, Edna, and Dorothy. Eric was born in Nottingham, England on January 26, 1917 and immigrated to Canada in 1923 where they settled in Charleswood. Eric enlisted with the Cameron Highlanders during the Second World War and served in Europe where he received medals for distinguished service. When he returned to Canada, he entered the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Manitoba and graduated Class of 1950. He purchased Roberts Drug Store at Sherbrook and Logan which he operated until his retirement in 1981. Eric was a great sports enthusiast. He loved boxing, football, hockey, etc. and spent many happy hours discussing them. He was an avid reader and loved stimulating and intelligent conversation. During his retirement he took many wonderful trips with Ruth and Irene. Eric was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We will dearly miss his wisdom, wit and dry humour. We would like to thank the staff of 2 South, Donwood Manor for their care and friendship to Eric over the past 11 years, and the many family and friends who visited him. A memorial service to celebrate Eric's life will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg Manitoba, R2J 4J4. A private family interment of cremated remains will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 6 Donald St. Winnipeg, Manitoba, or to a charity of your choice in memory of Eric. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Eric and his wife Ruth are fondly remembered by this family. Eric was not only our pharmacist, but a man of integrity. His advice on medications was always greatly appreciated and his efforts to go beyond that of a pharmacist will always be remembered. - Posted by: Ron Keller (Friend and customer) on: Jul 24, 2012

  • Eric was always a gentleman and loved to laugh and flirt with the ladies. He had a sparkel in his eyes when he smiled. He will always be remembered and dearly missed. - Posted by: E. Wideman (nurse) on: Jul 15, 2012

  • Good-bye Eric. We enjoyed our times together with you & Ruth. I mostly remember Eric, in my younger years, riding his motorcycle on the prairie in front of 495 Inglewood St. He went to war shortly after that and we were all proud of the fact that he became an officer and that he graduated from University after having been out of school for eleven years. Love Harry & Betty-Anne - Posted by: Harry & Betty-Anne Newbury (brother & sister-in-law) on: Jul 14, 2012
