LILLIAN POPESKI (nee YAREN) It is with great sadness and tremendous feelings of loss that the family of Lillian Popeski announces her passing at the Grace Hospital on July 9, 2012, at age 95. Lillian was a devoted wife to Ben, a wonderful mother to sons Arnold (Rose) and Richard (Connie); a grandmother to Dianne, Naomi (Rob), Jay (Brie), Lori, Cassie and Cara; a great-grandmother to Brooke, Justin, Sydney, Matthew, Asher and Lyla and a sister to Clarice, who she cherished deeply. She is also survived by her beloved and loving nieces Simmie (Larry), Lainie (Michael) and Bonnie and nephews Alvin and Stanley (Marsha). Lillian was one of five children born in Winnipeg, MB, to Nessie and Avarham Yaren and is predeceased by sister Seema and brothers Harry and Jack. Lillian's capacity for love was boundless with so many incredible friends of every age and at every stage of her life; some of over 80 to 90 years duration. She felt so privileged and lucky to have so many close relationships with so many people and was loved in return. Attending public schools, she graduated from St. John's High School. She was very active in both local and national charitable/religious organizations, ORT and Council of Jewish Women. A very physically active woman; she loved swimming, tennis and later the always willing student and partner, took up golf and bridge with husband Ben. Her passion was cooking and shared this joy with all those who were blessed to have known her. Lillian's life was focused on her loving relationship with husband and best friend Ben (who predeceased her on April 1, 1995) and care and devotion to her children and grandchildren. Her courage, quiet humility, humor and great capacity to love is her legacy she leaves to her family and friends. Donations can be made to the Parkinson's Society. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff, nurses and doctors on 5 North at the Grace Hospital for their extraordinary care and attention.

  • It is with sadness that I read of Mrs. Popeski's passing. She was a lovely woman and I so enjoyed getting to know her and her family. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Vivian Bicknell () on: Jul 16, 2012

  • I am so sorry to hear of Lillian's passing. The comments in the paper about her capacity to love were truly a reflection of her life. I had the pleasure of helping her with her aches and pains but I must say she gave me so much more in her smile and genuine concern. She will be deeply missed. My prayers go out to the family and especially Arnold and Rose with whom I am most familiar. - Posted by: Glen Bergeron (Friend) on: Jul 16, 2012
