WALTER KOSTIUK After a lengthy illness, Walter Kostiuk passed away at the Grandview District Hospital at the age of 76 years. Walter was born on the family farm on September 8, 1935, in the Riding Park community, south of Grandview, Manitoba. He attended Sugar Loaf Country School and also high school at Grandview Collegiate. Prior to Walter's full time farming, he worked at Monarch Industries in Winnipeg for several years during the winter months. But farming was his love, and he and his brother John took over the family farm in 1968. Walter farmed together with his father and his brothers Mike and John over a span of 50 years. His business strength was a great asset in the farming operation. In 2001, the family farm was sold and Walter with his brother John retired on a beautiful river lot in Grandview, once again close to nature. After the death of his brother John, Walter moved to Dauphin and lived in Lorray Manor assisted living facility where he made many friends and had five years of an enjoyable stay. Walter loved to camp in the Duck Mountains where he enjoyed fishing and boating. Walter was a long-time member of the Riding Park Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Riding Park. Walter was predeceased by his parents Fred and Lillian Kostiuk, his brother Mike Kostiuk and sister-in-law Nellie, and his brother John. Left to mourn and cherish fond memories of Walter are his sister Olga and her husband Bill Runnalls of Winnipeg, MB; his nieces Shirley and her husband Ken Briault of Drumheller, AB, Marlene and her husband Cliff Sul of Winnipeg, MB, as well as his many cousins and friends. Prayers will be offered on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. form the Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Chapel, 502 Main Street South, Dauphin, MB. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. from the St. Elias Ukrainian Catholic Church in Grandview, MB, celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Yaroslav Strukhlyak. Interment will follow in the Riding Park Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Walter may be made to the Parkinson Society of Manitoba.
