VIOLET SYROTIUK (BONWICK) (GRAN)
Born: Apr 26, 1932
Date of Passing: Jul 16, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVIOLET SYROTIUK (nee BONWICK) (GRAN) It is with great sorrow the family announces the sudden passing of Violet Syrotiuk, aged 80 years of Moosehorn, MB, on July 16, 2012 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. She leaves to mourn her husband Eugene; children Mildred (Larry) Gering, Marilyn Mern' (Pat) Budge and Michael (Diane) Price; brothers Lloyd (Marion), Allen, Donald (Shelley), Ricky (Phyllis); sisters, Jean, Loretta (Doug); grandchildren James (Tony), Bud (Pam), Tyson, Tim, Melony (Mark), Justin (Jacinthe), Cam (Laurie), Mikey (Janeen), Benji (Haley) and Lara (Carman); great-grandchildren Kenneth, Larissa, Shae-min, Rebecca, Zoe, Matthew, Maddox, Seanna, Addison and Bentyn along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and very good friends. Violet is predeceased by her parents George and Gertrude; first husband Lawrence; brothers Walter, Murray, Harold (in infancy), Angus, Lawrence and sister Grace. Gran was born on April 26, 1932 in Silver Bay, MB and was raised there until she was 11. Together with her family, they moved to Moosehorn, MB. She went to school in Silver Bay and then continued her education in Moosehorn. At the age of five, her mother passed away and, although not the oldest, Gran took it upon herself to raise her siblings. She would come home early from school to cook for them, do the housework and make sure all the chores were done on the farm. No one worked harder than her in both her youth and in her adult years. Her yearn to always look after others continued for the rest of her life with her catering, cooking at camps and the care packages she made for many from the newcomers to town, the next fishing trip (whether invited or not) and something just as simple as a trip to Winnipeg. Every Christmas, she either brought food or invited others into her home. Gran was quite a character. She loved to dress up with her friend Viola and put on a skit for almost any occasion. Having more people around the better, no matter the age, everyone enjoying many laughs and reminiscing. If you didn't understand the joke she told, she would point her crooked little finger at you and say what's the matter with you ? Gran looked forward to hunting season every year with Eugene and her grandsons. It was just last year at the age of 79 that she shot her last deer. She sang in the Peace Lutheran Church choir, was a member of the Eastern Star for many years and was one of the founding members of Whitetail and Walleye. Most of all Gran was very proud of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they, in turn, appreciated the many life lessons she taught them. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 23, 2012 at the Moosehorn Community Hall with Pastor Erwin Tippel officiating. Interment to follow in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Moosehorn. The family extends to those attending to dress comfortably due to the weather. Honorary pallbearers will be Viola Kiesman, Bev Brasted, Ida Townsend, Rita Postlethwaite and Phyllis Hokinson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Peace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 68, Moosehorn, MB R0C 2E0. Christmas just won't be the same without your cooking, your laughter and most of all the "hootch" you tried to pass off to Laurie as vodka :). Love you Gran, you are never more than a memory away. - Posted by: Cammy Price (Grandchild) on: Jul 22, 2012

How sad to hear of Violet's passing. I know my Mom and Violet loved to spend their birthdays together. I will always remember her as a warm and caring person and I know without a doubt she is in God's warm embrace. Our sincere sympathy to all the family.
