GLORIA CHRISTINE ROSS (nee BUTTERWORTH) 1929 - 2012 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mom and Nan on July 19, 2012 at St. Boniface Hospital. Mom leaves behind her loving husband of 64 years, Stewart, her four children: Terry (Debbie), Brad, Don (Dorothy), Susan (Darren) and her adopted daughter Joan (Brian) Charette. Her nine grandchildren: Lisa (Devon), Miles, Cory (Sherri), Dawn (Don), Megan, Dustin, Ross, Gage and Shae, as well as seven great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Ev Butterworth and many relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Norman and Annie, her sister Irene and brother Donald. Mom was born in Winnipeg and met the love of her life when she was 14 years old. They married October 2, 1948 and built a life together in Elmwood with their four children. They enjoyed many outings with their firefighter family, Dad's Pipe Band buddies and close neighbours the Brough family. Mom and Dad would take many camping trips with the family until they bought the cabin at Hillside Beach in 1985. They loved their time at the lake, tending the garden and entertaining family and friends. Few things made Nana happier than sitting on the deck in the morning sunshine watching the deer and having breakfast. Mom spent her life taking care of people and was always busy cooking, baking, knitting and sewing from Halloween costumes to wedding dresses. She loved what she did and took pride in being a Mom, Nana and a Great Nana. The world has truly lost one of its great souls in Nana. She got the life lesson; we are all family and embraced everyone, whether it was her foster children, her kid's spouses or anyone else. When you walked through the door the kettle was put on and you became one of us. Family was the most important thing to Mom and she was happiest when we were all together. Although we are heartbroken by her passing, we are truly grateful for having her in our lives. She will be truly missed and forever in our hearts. We would like to thank all the Doctors and Nurses at St. Boniface Hospital for their wonderful care. A celebration of Mom's life will take place on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Wildewood Golf Course, 761 North Drive. There will be a short service at 1:00 p.m. then tea time to follow, just the way Mom would have liked it. Please wear bright colours, Mom loved fashion. If lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation on Mom's behalf to a charity of your choice or to Vista Park Lodge Recreation Fund, 144 Nova Vista Drive, Winnipeg, MB R2N 1P8. So Dad can have some fun! Thanks for everything Mom We sure had fun. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.mb.ca 885-9715

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Very sad to hear of the passing of Gloria. Moe's parents (Paul and Jeannette Alarie) were neighbours on Nova Vista. Gloria knew all of us even before we met, as friends they shared many stories....Once you met Gloria and Stewart Ross you were already friends if not part of the family. We saw them everytime we would go to Wpg for a visit.... Jeannette had a wonderful friend in Gloria. Our thoughts are with you all. - Posted by: Odile & Moe Alarie (acquaintance thru neighbours on Nova Vista....) on: Aug 05, 2012

  • Glo. What a beautiful kind hearted gracious soul you have been. Forever caring and always giving from the heart. Always giving her time to others and going out of her way to do so. You are in good hands now and you have left a legacy. You will be missed. Forever in our hearts. Embrace love from above knowing you were an angel on this earth. Our hearts go out to the family. We are so sad for your loss. Never easy being without mom/nana. - Posted by: Ian kim Brett Anderson (Friend) on: Aug 01, 2012

  • This is a very sad day for anyone who new "Aunty Glo". She was part of our lives for so many years and was part of our childrens lives. Everyone loved Aunty Glo. I remember so many wonderful times just sitting with her either at her home or Mom's just having a cup of tea and chatting. Aunty Glo was always there whenever anyone needed help or a kind word. The world will be losing a true good samaritan. We could all take a lesson on how to live our lives from this very special lady. My heart feels empty without her. - Posted by: Donna Lynch (Brough) (friend/neighbour for many years) on: Aug 01, 2012
