CAROLINE LORRAINE MARTENS (HEMMERLING)
Born: Jul 14, 1957
Date of Passing: Jul 13, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCAROLINE LORRAINE MARTENS (nee HEMMERLING) July 14, 1957 - July 13, 2012 After a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis, Caroline peacefully passed away on Friday, July 13, 2012, at Surrey Memorial Hospital. From the time she was first diagnosed with MS, she kept as active as she could and tried not to let it affect her lifestyle or her spirits. After living with her oldest daughter in B.C. for several years, she was excited to get back her independence by moving into her own assisted-living apartment at Liberty Place, which allowed her to make new friends and participate in group activities. Having a motorized chair gave Caroline the freedom to do one of her all-time favourite things, which was shopping. Another favourite activity was to be on her computer, playing games and talking online with her many friends. Caroline's wish was to be cremated and buried in Birnie, MB, to be near her good friends and former home, which she so dearly loved. There will be no formal service. A private family interment will be held at a later date. She is survived by her loving children Pamela, Julia, and David; her parents John and Joan Hemmerling; her siblings John, James, Joan (Al), George (Marcy), Liz, and Sandra; her nieces and nephew Deana (JJ), Melanie, Steven, and Danielle; as well as her good friend George. She was our Happy Warrior. Always smiling and laughing through more than her fair share of life's adversities. May she rest in peace. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada National Office, 175 Bloor St. E., Suite 700, North Tower, Toronto ON, M4W 3R8.
