SIMMA KRAITBERG (nee ADLER) After a long and courageous battle with lung cancer, Simma passed away on Monday, July 23, 2012, at Health Sciences Centre with her husband Hy at her side. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Eva Adler, and her brother Sheppy. She is survived by Hy, her husband of forty-eight years, son Neil (Bella) of Ottawa, daughter Sharna (Rob) of Victoria, and grandchildren Hannah and Sheera (Ottawa), Noah and Zoe (Victoria), sister Barbara (Montie) Mazo of Valley Glen, California and Hy's siblings Morris, Zelda (Henry) of Edmonton, Sid (Ruth) of Toronto, Larry (Joan), Annette (Wayne) of Winnipeg. Simma was born in Winnipeg on April 21, 1942. She grew up on Inkster Boulevard and attended school at Champlain, Ralph Brown, Luxton and St. John's Tech. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1962 at Health Sciences Centre and worked as a nurse for a few years at Health Sciences Centre and later with Victoria Order of Nurses. She left her nursing career in 1966 upon Neil's birth. Her family grew in 1969 with the birth of Sharna. She volunteered as a canvasser with the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society. For three decades, she enjoyed playing bridge with Doreen, Marcie and Phyllis. She bowled for many years with J.W.I. Simma and Hy took many trips together, highlighted by Israel, Hawaii, New York, cruises, the winter months in Palm Springs and visits to their children and grandchildren. Simma was a very devoted wife and mother, and an exceptional Babie. Family, commitment, and honesty were important facets of Simma's life. She especially adored her grandchildren and loved their visits and phone calls. Funeral services were held at Congregation Etz Chayim on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, with interment at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Norman and Irwin Isenstein, Arch Honigman, Lloyd Wolfe, Sam and Michael Victor, and Eric Rosenhek. Special thanks to Dr. Sri Navaratnam of CancerCare Manitoba for extending Simma's time with her loved ones. Special thanks to Cantor Tracy Kasner Greaves for a beautiful eulogy and service, and to Rabbi Larry Lander for all of his visits over the past many months to help Simma with her journey. Special thanks to Cecile Victor and Rochelle Rosenhek for all of their help with the shiva. In 2009, Simma signed the Endowment Book of Life at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba.
