Date of Passing: Jul 21, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEILEEN FLORENCE SNEAD (nee HILL) Peacefully on Saturday, July 21, 2012 Eileen passed away with family at her bedside at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 84 years. She will be lovingly remembered by Byron, her husband of 62 years, her children, George (Shirley), Debbie (Murray) Luschinski and Bill; grandchildren Lisa (Lee) Henderson, Patrick (Kymberli) Snead, Brett and Tyson Luschinski; her great-grandchildren Jordanna and Adria Henderson, her sisters and brothers-in-law, Beverly and Bud Edstrom, Blanche and Bob Brooks and Jackie Molacek, nieces and nephews. Eileen was born in Winnipeg on October 10, 1927, the only child of Byron Alexander and Ruby Florence (nee Axworthy) Hill. She attended Principal Sparling and Daniel McIntyre Schools. She then worked for the Grain Commission where she met Byron. They were married on October 22, 1949. She enjoyed raising her family and in her retirement years, caring for her grandchildren while living in St. Norbert. She worked at Western Grocers for many years before Byron and Eileen moved to Burlington, Ontario in 1974, where she worked for Canada Centre for Inland Waters until her retirement in 1985. After moving back to Winnipeg, she kept busy with volunteering at the Christmas Cheer Board and Age and Opportunity. They also travelled and especially enjoyed cruises through the Panama Canal and Caribbean, and visiting her ancestral home in Plymouth, England. In her later years, they moved to a condominium on Watson St. where she was a vibrant member of the ladies group. Although small in stature and quiet by nature, she had a determined and strong-willed personality with a wonderful sense of humour that her children appreciated as they got older. She was extremely proud of her children and their family with all their achievements and adventures. Throughout Eileen's life she loved her pets, especially dogs, from Buddy when she was a child, to her Duchess in her retirement years and numerous ones in between. Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. The family wishes to thank everyone who provided care, comfort and support to Eileen during these past few years. During her recent illness, we would like to thank all those involved in Eileen's care at the Health Sciences Centre ER and Seven Oaks Hospital. We also want to thank Dr. R. Hayward and his staff for the compassionate care of Eileen throughout the years. If friends so desire, donations in Eileen's memory may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society.
