LEONARD BATES Suddenly, it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, Leonard Charles Bates on Friday, July 20, 2012 at the age of 85 years. He will be sadly missed by his children Kathleen (Gordon) Hyde and Lenny (Nancy) Bates of London, grandchildren Chris, Trevor and Shawn and Sam of London, brothers Tom Bates, Walter Bates of Vancouver and Larry Bates. He is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Margaret Bates, first wife Norma (Whitney) Bates and second wife Mary (Trojan) Bates, brothers Frank Bates, Nel Black, Bill Bates, Robert Bates, sisters Mary Parker, Eileen Klan, many nieces and nephews, and his dear friend Walter Beer. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg. We did not know Len but many times ran into him at the cemetery as he was watering his roses on his wife's graves while we came to water the flowers on my parents grave. We were amazed at what beautiful roses he grew at the site. One time we made arrangements to meet at the cemetery the following year at exactly the same time and date, however he did not show and we were afraid he had passed but that was about 5 years ago so he was still ok at that time.
