Rose was predeceased by her loving husband Henry, son Jeff, father and mother Dmetro and Anna Rewniak, father and mother-in-law Emile and Helene Poirier, sisters Mary, Nellie, Lena, Lily, Betty, brothers Nick, Mike, Jack and Bill. Rose was born Febuary 19, 1923, in the little village of Ukraina, Manitoba, and came from a family of 12, she was raised on a farm. As a young girl, Rose attended Farley School and participated in plays, acting. singing and dressing up in Ukrainian costumes and went carolling at Christmas. As a young child, Rose stayed for awhile with sisters Nellie and Mary in The Pas (mile 165) and La Paroose (mile 171). at a later age, Rose helped out with the chores on the farm and milked cows, gathered eggs from the hen house separated the cream from the milk, and helped her mom make perogies and holubci. Rose had many adventures and when she was five years old, she and her sister Nellie got lost in the bush in The Pas when they went moss berry picking. Ross was tired, so she put her head on a pillow of moss her sister Nellie made and then she heard a whistle, so they called for help and were rescued. Two days before she died, Rose told her daughter stories about her life in Ukraina, and the time when there was a fire in the pantry when sister Mary went to get something to eat for Rose, but luckily nobody was injured. She also told them she got locked in school when the door handle broke, so Rose took a piece of wood from the floor and stuck it in the door and unlocked it. Rose had many stories to tell about a flood, a twister and many more adventures, and those stories will be cherished forever. When she was 14, Rose moved to Winnipeg and stayed with her sister Nellie and in her 20's she moved into an apartment and she also worked at the Nut House, and at her brother-inlaw's restaurant (Sister Bethy's husband). While in Winnipeg, Rose met the love of her life, Henry Poirier, and on May 6, 1950, they were married at Christ The King Church, during the flood. Shortly after they moved to Montreal, and in 1953 they moved to Saskatoon, in 1956, the family moved to Transcona where she spent the rest of her life. Rose was a wonderful, loving, caring wife and mother, she always put the family's need before hers, especially that of her son Jeff who had a stroke at 18 months and was paralyzed on the right side. Rose was the best mom and she was also kind, considerate, generous, very friendly, had a good sense of humour and was fun to be with. Rose enjoyed camping, berry picking (especially blueberries), picnics, fishing, mushroom picking, planting vegetable and flower gardens, going out to lunch, reading the newspaper, doing the Jumble and Word Search puzzles. She enjoyed watching the Bombers, Jets, and golf on T.V and also the Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune. Rose also enjoyed rides in the country, music, animals, and had pet dogs Rags, Skippy, Tiny, Taffy, a cat named Smokey, and two budgies names Yakee and Tweetie. She also liked to travel and went to Hawaii, New Orleans, Atlanta, Montreal, Vancouver, Los Angeles and many other places. Rose was proud of her Ukrainian heritage, and would attend different churches, Ukrainian festivals and concerts. She loved to cook Ukrainian food and often invited friends to her house for a meal. In 2005, Rose had a car accident, and in 2007, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. In 2011, Rose had stomach problems which caused her to lose a lot of weight and in January 2012, she had a hip operation for a fracture. In 2012, Rose's stomach problems and breathing worsened and as a result she was hospitalized in early July at Health Sciences Centre where she remained until she passed away. Rose will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Growly Bear and Daddy Bear will miss her too. Prayers were held at Notre Dame de l'Assomption with Father L'eonce Aufin officiating on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. The funeral was held at the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church with Father Michael officiating. Donations may be made to the St. Amant Centre, Humane Society, or the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice. We love you Mom and will miss you. It is very sad to hear of the passing of our dear Auntie Rosie. She will be greatly missed, and we are sad that we were not able to see her recover fully from the bouts she has had recently with poor health. There are many memories our family (John & Lena Skrypnyk) has of our Auntie Rosie, and the many times she played host to family get togethers at her family home in Transcona. There were many occasions that we performed at these get togethers as musicians and we will always cherish the memories and her appreciation that she showed us and her endless and heartfelt generosity. We wish to pass our sincere, heartfelt condolences to our cousins Linda, Jerry, and Jane and to Auntie Rosie's remaining, brother (Metro) and sister (Ollie) , friends, grandchildren, and relatives. May she eternally rest in peace in God's merciful memory and the hopes that He guaranteed for all those that followed Him. - Posted by: Bob & Larry Skrypnyk (Nephews (John & Lena Skrypnyk - sons)) on: Jul 26, 2012

I send my condolences to the Poirier family in the loss of your mother. She was a very special lady. You know, before I started going to school as a child, I remember finding my way next door to visit your mom because I knew she was a great cook and she would spoil me rotten. We would talk about anything and everything, as I sat on those high stools in the kitchen. I think I drove her crazy with all my questions and stories, but she did not seem to mind. She would always serve me little treats like cake or pie with a tall glass of milk. I would then make my way to the living room where I would listen repeatedly to the Disney's "It's A Small World After All" record. I remember telling her that I wanted to learn to sing that song in all the different languages and she would sometimes join me. I don't think she ever got anything done when I was around. Your mother was a very kind, lovely, and sweet lady and I will miss her dearly. I had a nice visit with her last week at the hospital though, and she was very happy to see me after all these years. I knew your mom wanted to go when I gave her my mom's memoriam card. We talked about that, and she told me that she was ready. She is in a better place now with your dad, Jeff, and other family members. She made her way to heaven, but one thing is for sure, your mom will always live in your hearts. May she enjoy eternal life. Rest in Peace! - Posted by: Monique Marie-Madeline Ayotte (Long time next door neighbour in Transcona) on: Jul 26, 2012
