Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE (SCOTTY) ALEXANDER ROSS George (Scotty) died peacefully July 24, 2012 at Oakview Place, his daughters by his side. George was born to George and Catherine Ross in Winnipeg, November 29, 1923. George grew up with his sister Thelma, and brothers Ernie and Stan on Atlantic Avenue, and was proud of his North End heritage. He attended Luxton School. In 1932 the family returned to Scotland for two years. It was upon their return to Canada that Dad with his accent acquired his longstanding nickname of Scotty. At a young age Dad joined the workforce, beginning his career at Commercial Stationers as a type setter, working in many capacities there until his retirement in 1986. His 49 year tenure with Commercial Stationers was interrupted only by his military service during the Second World War. In the Second World War, Dad went overseas to England with the Royal Eddies (returning with the Princess Pats ) serving in Northwest Europe and Italy, and returning to Canada in 1945. In 1947 Dad married Rose. They were married for almost 25 years, parting ways in 1972. Together they raised three daughters, Linda, Cathy, and Kim. Dad was active in the Scouting movement for many years. He was a Scout leader for 15 years, and was a District Commissioner when he finally ended his involvement with that organization. Dad was an active member of St. John's Presbyterian Church, serving as Clerk of Session, as an Elder, not to mention all of the coin counting and recording of weekly offerings as well as for the annual church bazaar. George is survived by his daughters Linda Ross (grandchildren Alex and Brodey Kropla), Cathy (Cliff) Squier, and Kim Kruse, sister Thelma Ross, brother Stan (Nancylyn) Ross, and sister-in-law Joyce Ross. He was predeceased by his brother Ernie. A celebration of George's life will be held Friday, July 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Presbyterian Church, 251 Bannerman Avenue. Flowers are gratefully declined. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in George's memory to a charity of your choice.
