WALTER MATTHEW PROCHERA 1924 - 2012 Walter passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Left to cherish his memory are his children Stanley, Alan and Karen and their partners; Walter’s special friend Fay; his grandchildren Joelle (Jeffrey), Tiffany, Jennifer (Ian) Karsten, Pamela, Michael and Jason; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Len Gemzik and Florence and Frank Slivinski, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Walter was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Elizabeth (nee Schnerck), his wife Olive (nee Teneycke), his son Raymond, and his grandson Austin. Living in Winnipeg for most of his life, Walter worked for CP Rail until his retirement. He was a very active member of the CPAC (Canadian Polish Athletic Club), St. John’s Cantius’ Fraternal Aid Society, the St. John’s Cantius’ Senior’s Club and The Knights of Columbus. It was while being stationed during the Second World War in Mont Jolie, Quebec that he met Olive Teneycke - his wife of 59 years. Together they enjoyed special times with family and friends with summers spent at Gull Lake, on the farm in Young, Saskatchewan and at their cottage at Falcon Lake. They also had the opportunity to spend winter months in Texas and California. Walter was a charming man. He was an artist - painter and photographer. He loved to sing, dance and especially enjoyed listening to jazz. Walter loved his family and was well-loved by them. He will be greatly missed. Mass of Christian Burial, followed by a reception and celebration of Walter’s life will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., St. John Cantius’ Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter’s memory to a charity of your choice.
