MILT SWINDLEHURST
Born: Nov 15, 1928
Date of Passing: Jul 20, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMILT SWINDLEHURST Suddenly but peacefully, on Friday, July 20, 2012, Milt was taken from us. Left to mourn are his beloved wife Betty, daughters Kim (Dennis), Lee (David), and son John (Kari); grandchildren Sean (Jill), Tannis (Paul), Christopher, Lauren, Allora, Meagan and Mark; great-grandchildren Taylor, Aidan and Mackenna. Born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan on November 15, 1928, only child of Mark and Mary Swindlehurst, the family moved to Winnipeg where Milt attended Lord Roberts and Kelvin schools. Always a keen athlete, Milt participated in all sports. Upon leaving Kelvin he had to choose between baseball and hockey. He opted for hockey and sailed to England where he played professionally in London for the Harringay Racers for five seasons. It was in London that he met his future wife Betty (Smith) and they were married on November 14, 1953. Upon returning to Canada in 1954, Milt went to work in the general insurance industry, which he pursued all his working life. Many happy summers were spent at Falcon Lake. An avid down hill skier, he took a trip to the mountains every winter. On retirement, Milt and Betty spent all their winters in Texas and Arizona. Always a quiet and private man, Milt loved his family. After moving into the condo he loved visiting the family and walking their dogs. A longtime member of The Wildewood Club, Milt walked and played nine holes of golf with his friends every day, including the morning he passed away. At the request of the deceased, there will be no funeral or memorial service. With Milt's love of animals, donations to The Winnipeg Humane Society, in lieu of flowers, would be appreciated. God Bless You Milt / Dad / Grandad. We will miss you. 782-3541 www.kilcollinscremationservice.com

My times with Milt were limited but precious and powerful. As a youngster I was a neighbor of Milt. In the late '40s at about 10 years of age I idolized Milt..he would make me feel special by playing catch with me on the street corner in his Rosedale uniform while waiting for his ride...I followed his exploits as a ballplayer in the great Rosedale organization, an outstanding running back for his high school, Kelvin, and a solid player on good Monarch junior hockey teams before going to London and the Harringay Racers professional hockey team..it was Milt's quiet, confident, competitive spirit and wonderful athletic ability that elevated him as a wonderful mentor to a 10 year old that to this day holds him in high esteem as one of the people who greatly influenced my life. If I could have such a positive influence on just one individual I would feel successful in life. Rest in peace, Milt...you were indeed a success in life!! - Posted by: John Rendall (Friend) on: Jul 29, 2012
