JAMES MORHAM WALLACE (WALLY) BIRRELL 1921 - 2012 It is with unspeakable sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Wally Birrell on Monday, July 23, 2012, at St. Boniface General Hospital Wally will be greatly missed by his son-in-law Brian (Linda), daughter-in-law Paula, his brother-in-law Allan King (Barbara) of Calgary, his five grandchildren, his eight great-grandchildren, his four nieces and their families, and his numerous friends. Wally was predeceased by his wife Olive, his daughter Wendy and his son Richard (Rick). Wally was born on January 14, 1921, and grew up in Winnipeg. Wally married Olive in 1942. They raised their son and daughter in St. James and later, after their children were grown, Wally and Olive moved to Montreal for seven years. The pull of family and homesickness brought Wally and Olive back to Winnipeg where Papa played a very busy role in the lives of his grandchildren. Sleepovers, drives to the farm to get eggs, camping in the pop-up trailer, and huge family dinners were some of his greatest gifts to his family. Wally volunteered for years with CancerCare Manitoba as a driver for patients in need of transportation to treatment. He enjoyed his monthly poker club with his friends and relished in his ability to write correction letters to newspapers and factual almanacs. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff on the cardiac ward (4th floor) of the Asper Building for their sensitive care. Granddaughters Tracy, Sandy, and Kelly, along with grandson Bob appreciate the comfort and guidance that the staff offered us during Grandpa's last days. At his request a private family service will be held to honor Wally's life. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
