MERLIN BENN Merlin passed away on July 30, 2012 at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 72. Merlin is lovingly remembered by his wife Ruth of 46 years, sons Michael (Bonnie) and Curtis (Teri), daughter Lori (Derek), and five grandchildren Matthew, Nicholas, Coleton, Carson and Zuri. He was predeceased by brothers John and Walter, sisters Tillie, Mary and Bernice, and survived by sister Helen Munro of Westbourne. Merlin was born in Teulon on May 21, 1940 to parents Mike and Frances Benn. He lived and farmed in the Teulon area and also worked for the RM of Rockwood as a heavy equipment operator. Merlin found great enjoyment in good food and good company and the farm was host to many warm gatherings with family and close friends over the years. Gido took pleasure in watching his grandchildren grow and looked with anticipation toward their futures. The family extends special thanks for the exceptional care and compassion shown by Maureen Maskow, Sharon McMahon and Eunice Dyck of Teulon Homecare and also wishes to acknowledge the exemplary care given by April Frego, Dr. Clayton Dyck, and Dr. Sarah Kredentser of Kildonan Medical Centre and Dr. John Embil of Health Sciences Centre. All who knew Merlin in his final years of failing health marvelled at his courageous attitude and ability to persevere through it all. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2012, at the Saint James Lutheran Church, 871 Cavalier Drive in Winnipeg. Viewing will take place prior to the service.
