MARGARET LOIS COOKE (nee HELGASON) Margaret left us in the early hours of Tuesday morning, July 31, 2012. Her long struggle has ended, she was a strong and brave lady. Left to mourn her passing are her husband Ian; daughter Cathy (John); grandchildren Heather (Chad), Shandal (Alex) and Nick (Dawn); in-laws Marlene, Blair and Eileen, Bette, Beverly, John and Kathy, George and Monica and their families. Also numerous friends and relatives. Margaret was predeceased by her parents Gudny and Johann Helgason; brothers Robert, Kenneth and Kristinn. Margaret was born in Riverton on January 9, 1932 and was raised in Arnes, MB. She enjoyed the close knit Icelandic community and remained proud of her Icelandic heritage. Mom graduated from the Selkirk Psychiatric Hospital as a RPN in 1953. That summer on August 29, 59 years ago, Mom and Dad were married at Arnes. She worked at Selkirk Mental Health Centre all her nursing career. Mom loved birds, reading, old time music, visiting friends, baking, but most of all she loved being at the cabin at Islandview with dad and spending time with all of us. We were happiest when we were with Amma. Mom appreciated the friendly visits with old friends since she had lived at Betel. Eileen, Joan, Betty and Wally, Gert and Archie and suppers with Gloria and Lucy Our family thanks the wonderful team at Dialysis in Selkirk, Roberta and the unit staff. The staff at Betel Home for caring so much for Mom and Dad. Special thanks to Maryann, Paula and Tracey (Cuz) at Betel and Roberta at dialysis for being with us the last day. The exceptional aides at Betel that became part of the family. We will always remember you kindness. Cremation has taken place, a family burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Betel Home Foundation or the Kidney Foundations in Mom's memory. Goda nott, Elskin. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
