CLIFFORD ERIC ANDERSON September 19, 1928 - August 4, 2012 After a long nine-month battle with prostate and bone cancer, we announce with heavy hearts the passing of Clifford Anderson of Great Falls, MB. He died peacefully at Pinawa Hospital with his family present. Cliff will be missed by Marilyn his wife of 55 years, and his four children Luanne (Brent), Gary (Ruth), Donald (Jo-Anne) and Melody (John). He is survived by four grandchildren Cory, Melissa, Lauren and Jordan, one great-grandchild Jaxon, and two sisters Janice Pepin and Loreen Carlson (Fred). He is also survived by sister-in-law Arlene Butson, and brothers-in-law Del Allen and Merrill Stevenson, his Aunt and Uncle Gladys and Walter Jansson and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters Dorothy (1968), Beatrice (1983) and one brother Carl (1992). Cliff was the second of six children born to Julius and Anna Anderson of Broadlands, Manitoba. He was very proud of his Swedish heritage. To celebrate the 100 years since his grandfather's immigration to Canada, Cliff and Marilyn traveled to Sweden in 2006 to see his father's homeland. Cliff and Marilyn enjoyed trips to many places including England, Jersey Island, Alaska, the East and West Coasts of Canada, as well as the United States, and many local places in Manitoba. One of his favourite sayings, after watching something on TV, was We've been there! . Cliff worked for MB Hydro for 33 years, starting with MB Power Commission in Winnipeg, and then at Great Falls as Stores keeper for the Winnipeg River System, retiring in 1990. In the early years at Great Falls, he was involved as a treasurer for the Community Club and also as the mayor of the Village of Great Falls before it was changed to a LG District. Cliff thrived on hard work right up to his 83rd year. When people would ask him when he was going to quit working, he would reply, Oh, I just do a little bit when I feel like it . He loved the outdoors and our little farm where he grew grain and hay, and cut pulpwood with his sons Gary and Donald for the Pine Falls paper mill in his spare time . He also enjoyed cutting firewood alongside his son Donald on the farm in later years, and assisting Gary in his firewood business. Cliff was known as the Woodman to his many customers, who became friends during his yearly firewood deliveries. Cliff was also very proud of his ash lumber which has been turned into many beautiful pieces of furniture around the province. As well as enjoying the outdoors, hunting with his lifelong friends, and driving around the countryside, Cliff had a voracious appetite for knowledge. History, geography and poetry books were well read, details of which he retained, and loved to share with others. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, of which Cliff was a member, in Lac du Bonnet. The celebration of his life will be at 2:00pm. Interment will follow the service at Riverland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Cliff's name to the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Lac du Bonnet, The CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, Pinawa Health Auxiliary or a charity of your choice. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Growing up as a youngster in Great Falls, during summer holidays & touring around on my mini bike I'd usually pit stop at the Hydro Maintenance Building & my father's Paint Shop during their coffee breaks. Whenever I seen Clifford there he always had a cheerful smile and always something nice to say to me. Fast forward to late '70s early '80s I had a few 1955 thru 1957 Chevrolets either driving or in different levels of restoration. Clifford was a very generous man as he flagged me down at the Great Falls store one day and told me I could have his old blue 1955 Chevrolet 150 4 door sedan out at the farm. I gladly made arrangements to picked it up with the aid of Papineau Motor's tow truck were I had worked. For that I will always be grateful to him...you will be greatly missed ! - Posted by: Tim Haverlock (Son of Fred Haverlock, Cliffords co-worker for nearly 30 years with Manitoba Hydro at Great Falls) on: Jan 19, 2021
