ALEX SHUTKA On Monday, August 6, 2012, Alex Shutka passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital at age 92. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Mary and his daughter Alexandra. Also surviving is his sister, Mary Switlo of Vancouver, BC and numerous nieces and nephews. Alex was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Anna, infant twin sister, Dora and sisters, Elana Fee and Anne Reid. Alex was born, raised and educated in North Kildonan where he farmed and market gardened with his father. In 1953 he married Mary and together they continued in the market garden business until 1977 when they moved and settled in St. Boniface. There he worked at the Union Stock Yards until his retirement in 1985. During his retirement years he enjoyed fishing, biking and taking long walks. He was a member of St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church and later Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church. The family would like to extend many thanks to the nurses from Home Care for the care they provided to Alex. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 390 Marion Street. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 390 Marion Street with Fr. John Mostivsky officiating. Interment to follow at Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. You are loved and will never be forgotten. May God bless you and keep you until we meet again.
