NANCY JANE RENNIE 1950 - 2012 Surrounded by her loving family, Nancy slipped peacefully into the presence of the Lord on July 28, 2012, at the Irene Thomas Hospice in Delta, BC. Her courageous five year battle with cancer was an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by devoted husband Lon Schieder, children Jennifer and Jonathan, grandchildren Jordan, Joshua and Liam, stepdaughter Kelly, parents Bill and Connie Rennie, siblings Vivian, Ruth and Bill, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Nancy was born in Winnipeg at the height of the famous 1950 flood, her doctor coming by boat to deliver her. She attended Linwood School and Charleswood Collegiate. She enjoyed Brownies, horseback riding and singing in the Bethesda Church Junior Choir. Many happy days were spent at Victoria Beach and Gull Lake. Nancy's nursing career began at Selkirk General Hospital where she received her LPN. During her 32 years of nursing, she attained her RN at Royal Columbia Hospital in Vancouver and her BSN at the University of British Columbia. She finished her career as manager of the CareLife Fleetwood Fraser Health Facility where she was highly respected as a nurse clinician and manager. Apart from her work, Nancy was happiest when preparing traditional dinners for family gatherings, entertaining friends in their beautiful garden, and annual summer trips home to Winnipeg. We have many happy memories of Nancy's life; her love, steadfastness, wit and humour. A service of thanksgiving for Nancy's life was held on August 4 at Ladner United Church led by Major the Reverend Jim Short. Brigid Coult, director of the Richmond Chorus of which Nancy was a member, sang Handel's I Know That My Redeemer Liveth , 20 of the choristers added rich harmony to the hymns Nancy had selected. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of their choice. John 11:25 - Jesus said I am the resurrection and the life, he that believeth in me though he were dead, yet shall he live.

  • Everyone who crossed Nancy's path in life was always impacted by her vibrancy and love of life! Our memories go back to the "early days" in Winnipeg with fond memories of wonderful Christmas celebrations, New Years dinner feasts and even chemistry experiments exploding in our collective faces. The world was a better place with Nancy in it and we all miss Nancy, but, her personality and soul live on to remind us how good we can strive to be.
