GWENDOLINE PATRICIA RHODA (DU PLOOY)
Date of Passing: Aug 10, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGWENDOLINE PATRICIA RHODA (nee DU PLOOY) Gwendoline Patricia Rhoda, aged 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 10, 2012 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Mom was born in Kimberley, South Africa. In her youth she was a gifted athlete and passed on her love of sports to her sons and her grandchildren. Mom was a teacher before starting her family and was passionate about music. She played the piano and always had a song on her lips. Mom was a renowned cook and was admired for her South African specialty dishes. Her gentle soul and understanding nature drew people to her. It was her great personal strength, courage and love for her family that enabled her to leave her own brothers and sisters to travel with her husband to Canada to create a better life for her six boys. Mom always had a special smile and laugh for her grandchildren and a keen interest in seeing their sporting and artistic endeavors. Mom's kitchen remained the family hub for adult children and grandchildren alike until she was no longer able to cook for the multitudes. Mom will be sadly missed by William John, her husband of 66 years, and her sons: Stan (Helen), Neville (Lynn), Garth, Jeff (Siobhan) William (Anita) and Julian (Karen). Her presence will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Jon, Duncan, Kim, Kyle Marlo, Caitlin, Hailley, William and Brett and her family and friends in Canada, Australia, Great Britain and South Africa. The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Links for all their care and support. A private family service has been held. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Mom's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of your choice. Together, together, Always together, We strolled the lane, together; Laughed at the rain, together, Sang loves refrain, together. You are gone from me; But in my memory, We always will be together.
