ELGIN ERIC MCKNIGHT
Date of Passing: Aug 17, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELGIN ERIC MCKNIGHT After watching Dad struggle with his loneliness, he has been reunited with his beloved June. Peacefully with daughter Margaret and granddaughter Tracy by his side, at the age of 93, dad left us August 17, 2012. The youngest of 12 children of Caroline and Andrew McKnight. Eric left the family farm in Shawville, PQ to join the RCAF in 1941, where he met then married June. At war's end and with a family on the way, he bravely crossed the picket line at the Winnipeg Tribune where he learned to operate a linotype machine. His career at the paper ran through to computerization until the sad day for dad that the presses stopped. Dad was always quick with a smile and a hug. Never offered too much advice unless asked. Dad was a cheerful outgoing person who enjoyed his golfing trips and his curling with his good friend Bill Victoruk at the Elmwood Curling Club. Dad also enjoyed his visits with his brother-in-law Guy Devenny. They enjoyed visits to the aviation museum, and other drive abouts after an early morning breakfast. Dad was always willing to try new experiences. He once took his brand new big black 1966 Meteor Sedan to Keystone drag races where he won his class and brought home a trophy. (Was mom impressed?) Thank you to his down east nieces and nephews for their cards, phone calls and prayers for dad. They always said Uncle Elgin was their favourite uncle. Dad with a big grin would say But I am their only uncle . Predeceased by wife June in 2003, daughter Barbara Lewicki in 1996. Missing his presence, daughters Margaret Douglas (Roy) and Sheila Boyd (John), St. Albert. Grandson Paul Rowe (Allison), children Kyle and Cary, North Vancouver. Granddaughter Tracy Ambrose, children Taryn and Treyden. Granddaughter Jennifer Nimrichter (Jessie), child Taylor, Fort Saskatchewan. Grandson Graeme Boyd (Michelle) St. Albert. And of course ex-son-in-law Brian Rowe. Many thanks to the wonderful healthcare support girls and Don at River Park Gardens. A special thank you to his girlfriends Karen and Laurie. You could always make him smile, we thank you. Family celebration to follow at a later date.
