Mom was predeceased by her husband Russell in 1971, grandsons Derek Towns in 1982, and Blake Way in 2008. Mom was born on the Tole farm near Crystal City, Manitoba on October 4, 1923. She received her early education in a one-room country school called Rosebud. She had to leave home and board in Crystal City in order to receive her high school education. She received her teaching certificate in 1944 from Normal School in Winnipeg and taught at various schools throughout her life making many lifelong friends. While teaching at Hullett School, she met Russell and they were married on July 10, 1948. She became a busy farmer's wife and raised their five children. Over the years Mom took an active role in community organizations such as the Women's Institute, Order of the Royal Purple, Legion Auxiliary and Holy Trinity Anglican Church Choir. In addition, Mom thoroughly enjoyed music, square dancing and travelled to many countries. When at home, she filled her days with crocheting and quilt making leaving many items for the family to cherish. She was an inspiration to many and gracious to the end. She faced her final days courageously with her only concern being the welfare of those she was to leave behind. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Hewett, Carol Reimer and the nursing staff for the wonderful care they provided Mom. A funeral service will be held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Killarney on Thursday, August 23 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tri-Lake Health Centre Palliative Care Fund; P.O. Box 5000, Killarney, Manitoba R0K 1G0 or to a charity of own choice. Killarney Funeral home entrusted with arrangements.
