JEFFREY GIDNEY Jeffrey Gidney, beloved father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, peacefully passed away after a lengthy illness on Thursday, August 16, 2012, in Victoria, BC. Left to honour and cherish Jeff's loving and adventurous spirit are his children, Christine (Alex), Neil (Brenley) his beloved grandsons Griffin and Jordy, father Earle (Alice) and brother Ian. Jeff was predeceased by his mother Mavis in 1990. Dad did not want a lengthy obituary or a funeral. Rather, he preferred that we have a three day party in his memory. With his wishes in mind, the family came together this past week-end in Victoria to toast his young, full and vibrant life. We will continue to celebrate his life with family and close friends in Winnipeg on Thursday, August 23, 2012 and at a later date in Calgary, where we will honour the lasting impact he has had on the city's baseball community. Jeff was an entrepreneur at heart, and had a wonderfully unique and adventurous spirit that shone throughout his life. Jeff liked the finer things in life and very much enjoyed sharing them, his generosity and kind heart will be remembered always. We ask that you share your memories with us as we create a memoir for those left to remember him. I didn't know Jeff well, but my late wife spoke highly of him during her time working for him at Canadian Tire in the '80s. Sorry to hear of his passing and sorry find out so far past it! He is not forgotten. - Posted by: Stephane Guindon () on: Jun 30, 2015

I was very saddened to just learn of Jeff's passing. We loved that he brought the Vipers to Calgary and I have very fond memories of how attentive Jeff was to my son Mike who was a regular visitor to games in his wheelchair. Thank you for giving us so many memories Jeff and bringing baseball to Calgary. - Posted by: Sharon Blackwell (Acquaintance ) on: Jul 24, 2014

I am deeply saddened to read of Jeff's passing. My deepest sympathy to the family. Jeff was a major part of my life and we shared many successes in both personal and buisness dealings for some 30 years. Jeff was like a brother to me and I will miss him very much. Jeff had a full life and loved making buisness fun. I owe a lot to him as he was a instrumental part of my success and friends like him are rare. He will always be in my memory as brother and best friend. - Posted by: Mike Black (old friend and buisness associate) on: Sep 22, 2012

I worked for Jeff at Canadian Tire for 3 years (1982-1985) with Jeff being my boss and I am so saddened to hear the news. I always admired his wisdom about running a business and he always made me feel like I was an important part of his business's success. I've learned over the years that what you remember most about someone is how they made you feel and Jeff always made me feel good about who I was...I will always be grateful for that...although I have never met Christine or Neil, I remember how proud Jeff was of his two children that were very small at the time...I can relate to the grief and sadness that they feel as I just lost my father in Winnipeg on August 1st....a pain that one cannot descibe until they've lived it...God bless you all...Jeff is in God's hands now...no better place than that... - Posted by: Norma Woodward (Employee at Canadian Tire) on: Sep 02, 2012

Friends for over 20 years, Jeff was the epitome of a gentleman and the most generous person we have ever known. His loyalty to his friends knew no bounds and never flagged. He is dearly missed by us and we will remember his many kindnesses forever. God rest his soul. - Posted by: Tom & Shirley Pollard (Dear friends) on: Aug 22, 2012

I got to know Jeff when I coached Neil in the early part of his hockey career. During those years I came to know Jeff as someone I could rely on for any kind of help or support because of his positive spirit. As time went by we had some minor business dealings together which gave me a chance to get to know him better. It was always a pleasure to sit down over lunch and kick around different business ideas. Jeff had a great sense of humor and he often reflected on the good times he had with Christine and Neil cycling through Europe. He was a "good guy" who will be missed by many! - Posted by: Bob Acheson (Friend) on: Aug 22, 2012

No one could evoke passion or thought like Jeff; Jeff was an amazing risk taker and when he committed to an idea he was "all in". If it wasn't for Jeff and a few others, Jazz Golf wouldn't have happened. I feel fortunate I was able to thank Jeff was alive and his passion and fuel for innovation continues on. My best wishes to the family - and for certain a toast to "Gids" Hash - Posted by: terry hashimoto (business partner) on: Aug 22, 2012

Most of my memories of Jeff were at Jazz Golf and talking with Jeff at Neils Hockey games when Neil played in the MJHL for the Winnipeg South Blues. Jeff would always buy Ryan (my son) a hot chocolate whenever he saw him at the games. Ryan was about 7 or 8 and Jeff would always ask how hockey was going. My condolences to Neil and the family from Ryan and Allan Flood. - Posted by: Ryan & Allan Flood (Friend) on: Aug 21, 2012
